Also, you'd have canned Adel and Cerny at Xmas and Akos and HH in the summer too if you're that merciless.

Sorry mate, you've done some quality posts but I can't agree with your reasoning on this.

I think he should stay but only at CH because his heading ability is good and at CH you don't need as much pace as you do at LB or RB. Also his attitude is better than most at the club right now. A 1 year contract extension would give us options. I also thought Ramage was a much better CH than FB where he was played all the time.

Clint Hill is a Rangers ledge in his own time. Heart and soul for me. Rarely put a foot wrong this season or last (Bolton red excepted). One of the few who'd keep Joey quiet if needs be (and not just cos he speaks Scouse!). Wasn't frightened to tell Neil the truth either.

Reckon people look at his age before his game. Need to hang on to him at least until we've got greater strength in depth - still far too thin in all departments for a prem club.

I think Clint deserves at least another season in the prem with us.
The irony would be, if for some astronomical balls up, we get relegated, Hill probably WOULD be first on the team sheet, because all the prima donnas would have left for teams that have come up.

I think it is frightening that Clint Hill is being regarded as our best defender. This is nothing derogatory to Clint, who has shown that enthusiasm, desire and character are equally important as any other attributes for a footballer. His example must give hope to other seasoned professionals that have not been lucky enough to play at the highest level in our country. I would definitely like him to be around for another season.

But what does this say about Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Hall etc....?

This is far to too big a clear out, especially if we are in the Championship next year. You are also leaving us with only 1 keeper! Hill should stay definite and personally I'd sell Anton, and keep Gabbi, possibly Hall in the Championship, before Anton based on his performances since Chelsea.

Agree with you on Barton, Hulse, and Macheda, for the others I think it will depend on what league we end up in, and which new players we bring in, if any!

So youd rather be loyal to the players even if it means that it harms the club, most of them would be off like a shot if they got a better offer

Cerny is a good backup who doesnt moan, Adel was our best player and has been our best forward this season.

That was based in us staying up, things would change if we went down but Hill would still go for me and wed get other players like him who are 10 years younger.
You do know we can sign new players as well? :D

If we went down, DJ, Bothroyd, Smith and Ramage could do a job.

So Hughes is a moron if he replaces him with a quality younger player? That makes sense.

So youd rather have Hill than say Samba if he didnt go to russia?

Look where buying lots of players has got us so far...

I dont disagree that eventually someone younger and better will take his place, but at the moment nobody comes close to the sort of qualities that Hill has. It was great to see him play in the centre again and I honestly think he made a good case for holding the position. He is a leader and brings a determined feel to the team that has been a missing lately.

We bought the wrong players in Barton and SWP. We need to replace Hill but obviously not with the defensive version of those 2 but someone of quality to partner Ferdinand.

Samba is only 6 years younger than Hill, not a massive difference.

27 and 33 is a huge difference in footballing terms. One is just reaching his peak and the other is already on a downward spiral losing things like speed which Hill didnt have much of in the 1st place.
