Amazing how much time has flown since the greatest CFC legend ever passed away. He was before my time but I always hear of great stories and recall many interviews of his, he loved the club and was Chelsea through and through. Coincidentally, WBA away was the first game we had after Ossie's passing, we won 2-1. Let's hope for more of the same. R.I.P Peter Osgood (1947-2006) Forever Blue
i was lucky enough to see Ossie play and although I'm a Spurs fan,i know good players when i see them, and ossie was one of them,a sad day when he passed away,Probaby the ever Chelsea team, should have won more trophy's
Wow didn't realise, R.I.P to the legend Osgood and a big thank you for the horse obviously named in its memory for winning me a nice bit today, I didn't know it was 6 years to the day but i'm guessing the trainer or owners of the horse OSGOOD did today because it won todays race
I saw Ossie make his debut as 17 year old against Workington in what is now known as the League Cup! He scored 2 goals in a 2-0 win and I'll always remember him flinking the ball up in the air when he was challenged by a defender and then nipping round him and collecting the ball on the other side. He then waltzed off to score his first goal for us! I always remember dining in the Di Matteo suite at a match once and a pen flew over my shoulder and landed in my dinner! A hand came over my shoulder to pick it up and it was Ossie's! We had a laugh about it! God bless him!
I also saw Ossie play many times for Chelsea, and he was the first "special one " for my money. Mind you he had some competition. Venables, I believe was here then, Alan Hudson and Charlie Cook,Houseman, Mickey Droy, Ron Harris ( the 1st John Terry ) Baldwin, McCreadie, I think also Steve Kember ??? All greats, and Ossie was as great as any of them. Wish we had a time machine. Ossie, Alan Hudson and Charlie Cook, Imagine them in their prime in todays team !!!!!!
CP--The idea of Ossie replacing Torres and Charlie Cooke replacing Malouda has very strong possibilities! Not sure who Hudson would replace though!
Bluemoon,Hudson was that good he could replace any of the current midfield, shame he did'nt play for us
Dont get me wrong, totsfan, I thought Alan Hudson was up there with the best of them! I'd just find it difficult to choose who to switch him with in a current midfield playing at their best ie Essien , Ramires and Lampard
something of intrest,if they were all the same age at the top of their game would you prefer 3 those current 3 or Hudson,Hollins & McCredie?
In those days you had 2-3-5, not a 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2, so replacing like for like becomes a bit more complicated! Hudson, Hollins McCreadie were all internationals and as far as I'm concerned great servants of the club. Nearly 50 years on I feel equally strong about Essien, Ramires and Lampard! Thats the trouble--we're spoilt for choice! Aint we lucky?
you played 442,i saw enough of you to know that, your srikers were ossie and houseman,it was a bit earlier than Sexton it was the Doc
Houseman was more of a wide player and did not really get established until Sexton took over from Docherty in 67. Think you are getting Houseman confused with Hutchinson. Hutchinson was signed by Sexton in 68
I think that's correct, but even Hutchinson was a tremendous player. For mine, Hudson had all the qualities we now need. He was very creative, like Glen Hoddle at his top, was more than quick enough and had a great shot. Now if we could bring back Zola in that time machine !!!!
We're getting close here to producing the best Chelsea X1 we've ever seen! Am I right? If I am I'll have a go, but I'm sure no one would agree with me!
I seem to remember you posting a cracking team on the thread I made about our 'greatest XI', everyone's opinion can only be based on who you've seen and who meant most to you! meaning nobody is correct. What's great about our players past and present is that they could all get in ahead of each other! You pick Osgood but then remember Greavsie, Dixon, Tambling etc etc, it's all relative
