I think the gooners game is massive, if we lose it is safe to say 4th will be out of reach.

    Anyone else with me?

Plus what is your prediction of the score?

ill go for 1-0 to us.

I hate all the doom and gloom but I think you're right. This would be a perfect way to get closer to Arsenal and then to win our game in hand and we would only be a 1 point behind I think.

I think we will win if Gerrard isn't playing, and we MIGHT win if he does. I just don't have the confidence in him anymore. I think a lot of people on here will notice that I'm not his biggest fan anymore as I think he stifles our style of play. We've not won a game in the last 6 that he has started which tells you everything.

We wont be mathematically out of it obviously, and there will probably still be a moment when we catch up again and think we have a chance...but yeah...lose this and it will be a massive blow and most likely we will not recover.

Lol same here! It's no coincidence that our last decent performance, where we played with style AND won was against Wolves when he wasn't playing.

If he was able to have the same impact as he did when he came on against Newcastle then he has a place in the team but he's not fit and I don't think he's being used properly. To be fair, in order to get the best out of Stevie and Adam, we need Lucas back to give them the protection which enables them to attack. I thought Adam and Lucas formed a very good partnership just before he got injured.

Is this true? Is this for the PL only and what games were they? We have had some tough fixtures with City, Spurs and Utd. We should have beaten Bolton and Stoke though...Gerrard should be rested anyway imo after this week. <ok>

Don' t agree re Gerrard - he did make a massive difference at Newcastle, but that was his first game back at Anfield against a poor NUFC. He has had to play deeper as more of a holding player since Lucas injury so I don't think he has influenced the games as much as we are used to.

His shooting is waaay off though I'll concede but to retire him to the subs bench is two seasons too early for me.

We could just about afford to draw, a defeat and we are out of it

inevitable in every season there comes a point of no return.

For city and utd this weekend could be that if utd fail at spurs for example but equally its most likely going to be the manchester derby laste on.

For us i think this game is a difficult one but is it the vital one that can turn everything? nope. we are too far behind already to assume one win will get us really back into this thing BUT you are right that a loss will just seal it.

talk of 4th is nice but the reality is our team dropped too many easy points already.... soory but there you go. its possible but unlike the carling cup final we cannot call ourselves favorites for 4th.

heopfully we'll do well this weekend but add internationals to injuries and carraher playing and we must accept that we need something special from a couple of guys who've not delivered enough.

Luv said on the match thread that if we win this we will probably lose at Sunderland. Would be the story of our season really, but I would much rather it that way round than beating Sunderland and losing to Arsenal. Taking 3 points off Arsenal is almost as important as getting 3 points ourselves. Which is why this game is a 6 pointer.

I do not like catch upt games because points in the bag is better than game in hand.Because Arsenal like to attack it is going to be end to end game .
I still believe we are going to win, but only just.Liverpool 1:0Arsenal or
    Liverpool 2: 1 Arsenal.

Not too sure, I just saw the stat from Opta. Thing is, it's not just the results that have gone against us. The performances have not been that great as well. At least the start of the season when we were dropping points, we were playing some good attacking football.

Then again, we did miss Suarez and Lucas for quite a bit so it's unfair. We need Lucas to improve the balance of the midfield.

Going back to the OP - points in the bag are key now, can't afford not to win on Sat IMO.

Last weekend non of the results were good for us, except Newcastle I guess after being 2-0 up. Hoping for:

Spurs to beat Utd. (But not really that bothered if it was the otherway round as long as city win)
West brom to beat Chelsea. (Draw would be good enough)
Sunderland to beat Newcastle. (Also because I don't want to face a Sunderland team after 3 straight defeats)

i think we've a lot of work to do to improve our team and comolli's rather interesting and maybe out of character words after the carling cup told a lot.

i think comolli is quite closed usually but he let slip that he's already got guys wanting to come to anfield next summer. i think CL is a massive bonus and not required for our long term project here. i look at this year and the next as development and think it is only the seasons after next that i hope we are

    • in the champions league
    • competing for the league with city

I would target 4th next year and a europa league win... this year i am hoping to best stoke and see where that takes us... the right draw and we're in with a big chance for a final.

My fear for this game are:
    1. Sending off...on our side
    2.Giving away stupid penalty
3.Arsenal would not like us to do them double
If no one is sent from our side and we do not give away stupid penalty: we are going to win. Por players are going to be up for it.

I also think this is a must win game for us if we want to make the top 4. I also think that we should rest Gerrard for the game as we will need him fit for the rest of the season.

Gerrard's form hasn't been great this season and the teams level of play has dropped since he came back in, but we must remember that he's endured a difficult time over the last year. The injury of Lucas has also been a big factor in his poor play as he and Adam struggle to gel forcing Gerrard to play deeper than normal. Also he hasn't had much game time with any of our strikers so the link up play between them has a lot of room for improvement to become anything near his partnership with Torres but I'm sure it will.

The main thing is we must keep Gerrard fit, and his form will follow in time.
