Aye it wouldnt do us any favours really. Whereas if they stay afloat we should hopefully beat them and hopefully they make take some points off our promotion rivals in an ideal world.
It's more a case of Middlesbrough gaining on everyone (they drew with Pompey) than us losing ground. Playoff positions wise I'm going to wait until after tonight's game to work it out fully though because there's a lot of variables there, and with us playing Blackpool it might deal with a lot of them for me. The gap to 2nd place would be 7 points on even games, assuming we beat Cardiff and West Ham won their game in hand. At the moment it's 7 behind West Ham on even games if we beat Cardiff (we only have one game in hand on them, so for fair comparison I'm taking Cardiff in both cases), so it could actually be reduced to 6 if West Ham didn't win their game in hand (they don't have one now as they've played Pompey twice), and that would be to Reading instead.
Revised top half after tonight: Team Played Pts So'ton 32 61 Reading 31 57 --------------------------- W. Ham 30 55 B'pool 32 55 M'boro 31 52 B'ham 31 51 --------------------------- Brighton 32 50 Cardiff 30 49 Hull C 31 49 Burnley 32 47 Leeds 31 45 Leic'ter 30 43 2nd place is currently 9 points on even games. If Pompey fold it becomes 8 points on even games, but will be 9 if West Ham win their game in hand. 6th place is currently a point away on even games. If Pompey fold it becomes 2 points on even games, but would be 3 points if Cardiff won their game in hand (not the one against us). I knew it would be simpler after tonights game.
