Please post anything to do with the upcoming tough match with Newcastle in this thread please. Any other thread on the subject will be merged into this thread.
There'll be two extra in the stadium for the game, me and the dad are coming over, me via London for an interview. Hopefully the lads'll play better than they did in the other game we were over for (Blackpool. God that was dismal!)
Peadar Your'e up late matie? Take a look see at the "chat thread on here" A little something I've left on there to keep certain fans busy mid April, we have a date a Wembley.
We need height at the back and should be strong from the back as we were on Saturday against West Ham: Begovic Wilson--Shawcross--Huth--Higginbotham Pennant--Whelan--Delap--Etherington Walters--Jones It should be the same side that won the tie against West Ham in my opinion, no player should be dropped/rested as they all played well.
What worries me is that Pulis said after the West Ham game (according to BBC's Chris Bevan) that he wanted to play 2 proper wingers to counter West Ham's 4-3-3. I hope this doesn't mean Pulis is going to revert to Delap-Whelan-Whitehead-Etherington against Newcastle
Good time to play us lads, looking like we could have Barton, Enrique and Gutierrez out for this one, hoping we can still put in a good shift for it mind, what do you think you will get out of this game then? 3 points, draw?
Boot Boy It's a tough game and IF we, Stoke are not fully up for it and we should be who knows? Same as the above, I only HOPE that both Pennant and Etherington are fit and playing from the start. IF they do, should be a decent game IMO anyway. Honestly could go either way but I'm confident we can get the win. I guess Newcastle fans might say the same thing? A pity if Barton isn't playing. Despite his history this bad boy image. I like him as a player he seem's to have well, grown up since moving up North? Enjoy the game Boot Boy but I hope not the final outcome. After which, good luck for the rest. After the Potter's you have the best fans in the land.
Yeah, the scores have been pretty much impossible to predict this season, it really could be any scoreline, Ive always liked Etherington as a player and would have loved him at Newcastle, seen him against West Ham in the FA cup last weekend and thought he was excellent, hes definitely someone we need to stop if we want any points from you in this game. Barton has been massive for us this season, hes been our most consistent performer and dragged the lads forward at times, a Newcastle team without Barton is a different team. Same to you, good luck for the rest We'll see who can make the most noise on Saturday no doubt !
http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newc...ifts-lid-on-stoke-loan-spell-72703-28353093/? SHOLA AMEOBI could not be better placed to know exactly how controversial Stoke manager Tony Pulis makes his players tick. Ameobi ââ¬â who also lifted the lid on his frustration of not getting first-team football, and how he came close to leaving Toon with Stoke interested in 2008 ââ¬â has shared a dressing room with the driven Welshman, who isnââ¬â¢t afraid to upset people with his opinions and a brand of football that many deem ââ¬Åuglyââ¬Â. There also arenââ¬â¢t too many players that can say theyââ¬â¢ve shared a pitch with Mr Blobby ââ¬â but Shola is one of them! That was the case when Ameobi played his part in helping the Potters to promotion three years ago. With referee Mike Dean allowing play to go on despite fans spilling on to the pitch, a 0-0 draw sent Stoke up and Leicester down. The Toon striker was sent to Stoke on loan by Kevin Keegan and found himself a world away from the attacking, free-flowing football the Messiah loved to produce, with the Potters battling their way to promotion under Pulis in the only way they knew how. Branded a ââ¬ÅThugbyââ¬Â team by Arsene Wenger, Stoke have attempted to change the face of the English game with an uncompromising style of play which is largely dependant on Rory Delapââ¬â¢s long throws. Ameobi went to Stoke three years ago and played his part in getting the Potters on to the big Premier League stage, and has more of an insight than most of how Welshman Pulis will play it on Saturday. The striker told the Chronicle: ââ¬ÅTonyââ¬â¢s done wonders for Stoke. ââ¬ÅTo do what heââ¬â¢s done, with the players he had at the time, and the fact that heââ¬â¢s consolidated and pushed them on, is testament to his managerial strengths. ââ¬ÅHe knows how to get the best out of the players he brings in, and thatââ¬â¢s what you look for in a manager. ââ¬ÅTony Pulis has definitely got that, and thatââ¬â¢s why theyââ¬â¢re in the Premier League.ââ¬Â Ameobi had been strongly tipped to leave the Magpies under Keegan, but the former boss soon left months after a sensational third coming, and the Nigerian-born striker found redemption under Joe Kinnear and then Chris Hughton. Lifting the lid on what was a difficult time for the boyhood Magpies fan, Ameobi, says: ââ¬ÅI was frustrated at Newcastle, wasnââ¬â¢t playing football and ended up at Stoke on loan. ââ¬ÅI donââ¬â¢t think it got that far ââ¬â talking about deals ââ¬â I just wanted to play football, and thatââ¬â¢s where I was coming from. ââ¬ÅIt gave me the chance to get a bit of game time. Thatââ¬â¢s all that was. It was a great time for me. ââ¬ÅI was frustrated here (at Newcastle), not really getting a chance, and I wanted to play football.ââ¬Â Pulis didnââ¬â¢t follow up his interested in Ameobi in the summer of 2008 and reflecting on that period, the striker said: ââ¬ÅI got injured there. ââ¬ÅI played the first couple of games, and then I had a slight hamstring problem, which kept me out.ââ¬Â However, he will always be part of the team that helped see Stoke rise to prominence. And that now-famous day when Mr Blobby made the headlines again as Stoke went up, will live long in the memory of Shola as a fan dressed as the TV star led a victory charge on to the field with the Britannia Stadium pitch a swarm of red and white. Ameobi laughed and said: ââ¬ÅWho could forget that! ââ¬ÅIt took us about an hour to get back into the changing room. ââ¬ÅIt was a big thing for them, and it was a great time. ââ¬ÅThat gave me a chance to play football, and Iââ¬â¢ve got fond memories of my time there. ââ¬ÅIt was obviously elation ââ¬â a bit similar to what we had last season when we won the Championship.ââ¬Â Now, though, he heads to the Britannia with a very different brief as the Magpies look to close in on Premier League survival. He said: ââ¬ÅIââ¬â¢ll go there looking to win the game as a Newcastle player, and all formalities will be left on that white line. Hopefully, weââ¬â¢ll get a victory. ââ¬ÅIââ¬â¢ll look forward to it. Every time I go back I say hi to everyone, but like I said, Iââ¬â¢ll go there to get three points as a Newcastle player. ââ¬ÅAs a club, we have to go out and fight tooth and nail to get that.ââ¬Â And he warned: ââ¬ÅTheyââ¬â¢re a good side, especially at home. ââ¬ÅWeââ¬â¢ll have to show the character weââ¬â¢ve got, and what weââ¬â¢ve shown away from home this season.ââ¬Â
Begovic Wilson Huth Shawcross Higginbotham Pennant Delap Whelan Etherington Jones Walters Pulis will probably put Whitehead back in at the expense of Whelan, But Glenn was our Man of the Match against West Ham and should play.
Would hate To be in TP'S shoes like you say Hoppo Glen had a great game and deserves to play but you can't leave Deano out.
A draw would be a decent result for Newcastle considering Barton and Enrique are doubts. It is those two that are doubts right? A draw would be a pretty rubbish result for us, we really need a win. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ewcastle-John-Carew-ruled-Magpies-clash.html? - Carew out so likely to be lazy arse and Super Jonny up front. http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20110318/practice-makes-perfect-for-harps_2281670_2319310? - Harper hoping practice makes perfect.
whelan is ****, delap is ****, jones is **** MY team: Begovic Wilkinson Shawcross Huth Higgo Pennant Wilson Whitehead Etho Walters Carew After 60-70 mins bring on rory's rockets & fuller. yes i know said delap is ****, but after we have attacked wave after wave there defence will be useless against the DELAPADATOR
Agree but with Carew out it will have to be KJ or Fuller unfortunately, not sure whose the worst of the two they are both very capable players on their day but both don't seem interested IMO. It is funny how Walters has probably become the most effective player up front as the season as progressed.
IMO Beggo great performance Wilson looking the part at RB Ryan Much Better Huth The form player continues to impress Higgy Man of the Match Overall one of our best defensive performances, if not the best, of the season. Pennant Superb, very close to MOM Delap Still a struggle Whelan Prefer Whitehead Ethers Still not at his best but a good run should see him right. Walters deserved goal, fabulous effort, inspirational KJ Much better effort, more of this will see the goals back. All subs did a job Well done TP keep 'em fit and we will be o'rate.
Yes...sure has rounded off a great week for us,let's look forward to playing like this against Chelsea.
