According to Hawking, Aliens are out there somewhere. Hawking says that in a universe with 100 billion galaxies, each containing hundreds of millions of stars, it is unlikely that earth is the only place where life has evolved. "To my mathematical brain, the numbers alone make thinking about aliens perfectly rational," he said, according to The Sunday Times. "The real challenge is working out what aliens might actually be like." Hawking says that they could be microbes â basic animals such as worms which have been on Earth for millions of years, but suggests that extraterrestrial life could develop much further. "We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet," Hawking said. "I imagine they might exist in massive ships, having used up all the resources from their home planet. Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonise whatever planets they can reach." The scientist, who is paralysed by motor neurone disease, warned that contact with alien life could spell disaster for the human race. It's more preposterous and arrogant to think there aren't any other beings out there. And why should they have to live and exist under similar conditions to Earth?
Either we are alone in the billions of billions of solar systems in the Universe, or we are not - either scenario is an amazing concept. I don't agree though that Aliens will be aggressive and I think Hawking is wrong - why would they bother being aggressive to us when everything that's on this planet is abundant everywhere else in the Universe? Ok there may not be organics such as chloroform available in such abundances, but surely if you have managed to master inter-stellar travel you can manage to sympathise those organic compounds yourself on your space ship. Having to travel millions of light years to wipe a planet such as Earth clear of intelligent life seems like a lot of effort for a race who should be advanced enough to even terraform a Mars type planet to use for their own purposes.
