Internet forums offer a great opportunity to learn more about a particular subject and introduce yourself to people with the same interests you have. After awhile, though, you may find that you spend a little too much time in some of these forums. If internet forums are causing you to lose sleep or are hindering your work, it's probably time to take a break. It won't be an easy process but it will be worth the work. Here is how to overcome internet forum addiction.1
Begin by deleting your browsing history, temporary internet files and cookies. First, this will take the link to the forum from automatically appearing on your browser once you begin typing the first letter of the website in your address bar. It will also remove any passwords that you have saved on the website, thus not allowing you to automatically log on.

    2
Shut your computer down in the evenings. If you are a big fan of internet forums, you probably spend plenty of time in these forums during the night. When your computer is at rest or “asleep,” simply moving your mouse can allow you to get right back onto that forum within 30 seconds. Turning your computer off, though, makes getting online more of a process. Turn your computer off about an hour before you plan to go to bed.

    3
Change your password that you use to log onto the forum to something that you won't easily remember. Make it a sequence of letters and numbers that you'll actually have to look up. Then, delete the new password from your email. This way, to log onto the forum, you'll have to go out of your way to either log on or to have the password emailed to you.

    4
Force yourself to do household chores and other errands during the time that you would normally be on the forum. For example, you could use that time to go to a grocery store. To make the chore an even longer event, you could walk to a store that is further away than where you normally shop. This will take up more of your time and thus keep you out of the forum longer.

    5
Ask the administrators of the forum to give you a temporary ban. How long you asked to be banned will be up to you depending on the level of your addiction. Thirty days is a good amount of time, though, to break the addiction. By doing this, you won't be able to get on the forum no matter how badly you try as most bans of this nature ban both a screen name and an IP address.

How come you wont admit you aren't a Sikh and your avatar isn't you?

The first step in overcoming dissociative identity disorder,

is admitting you have dissociative identity disorder.

Is it an addiction? I enjoy coming on here talking about my beloved football club, having a debate or friendly banter with my fellow mackems and yes, sometimes a couple of mags for an hour or 2 when I get time which isn't everyday, I'm certainly not addicted
