The point I was driving at is that I don't like it when the people put the police on a pedastal. It is one of the worst funcitioning public services in this country. For a number of reasons as I eluded to, not only individual arrogance. I know what you mean re: brickies, electricians. However in my opinion there are a lot more arrogant bell ends per head in the police force. Why? Because not everyone is a good candidate to be put in a position of power. That is what you are given when you are made a police officer, power. Unfortunately it corrupts a lot of people.

Moat was typical scum of the earth. I haven't read much about but what I have paints a poor picture of Moat. My understanding is that the guy had several screws loose. The police may be very dislikeable but no officer should be getting shot in the face just trying to do his job.

What is your thought ? That therre should be no moderators and no interference with posts ?

Perfectly coherent position. It owuld mean that the forum is over run by loons pretty quickly but it would be free.

I would rather have conversatio maintained within civilized bounds. Kind of like in a pub. That means that there is someone like a publican who bars people now and again.

    Less free, more pleasant.

It wouldn't of course, be acceptable to let the publican decide who had the right to hold what opinions, but he can decide who gets to chat in his pub

This person has the right to say what he likes, if he wants to be a sad cock faced piece of ****, then that's his choice!

I am always sad to hear of the death of someone, especially after they have had the courage to not be a victim of a fat ginger bastard who spat his dummy out because his girlfriend found someone else

RIP David Rathband, one of Northumbria's finest

    Right, let's clear this up.

Are you in favour of no posts being deleted and no one barred for any reason ? All moderators resign ?

If so, who else agrees ?

    I appreciate that.

What I am getting at is a serious question. Do we favour a complete free for all or are we in favour of some rules ?

I agree with what you are thinking, I shouldn't have said what I did, I get annoyed at some people when they come out with statements like that, yes you are allowed to say that in this country, but one day this person may need the help of the police & I hope they remember what they said & have the courage to apologise. We don't have the perfect police force, yes they make mistakes, they upset an awful lot of people while going about their work, if fact we would be totally in the ****e if it wasn't for them, imagine no-one being there to stop the London rioters or those around the country that jumped on the bandwagon last summer

I defo think ilovehelen should be free to post the kind of comment he did. Do I agree with his views? No not at all. Its a complicated one because where do you draw the line. The thread is there to commemorate Rathband obviously. But not everyone might want to do that and may not think a lot of him. Hell, people may have bad personal experiences of the bloke which show him to be not the best candidate for a public outpouring of emotion. You have to to accept when you put up any thread that people may have a different viewpoint to your own.

I don't know if Syd knew him and that's why he posted the thread? Or he may just have a lot of time for the police or public servants? Once you put the thread up, its fair game to one and all, or at least it should be in my opinion.

Never met the man but a Northeast man dies I thought would be something many would have a view on.

    Just to clear up.

My points weren't backing up "Ilovehelen" as I think he is our resident WUM big Chris.
And gets banned under different names on a daily basis.

I was backing up "iqbal", who actually sympathised about Rathbone but then went on to vent about oppression.

    Rathband not Rathbone. <doh>

Well, if we agree that some posters or posts should be barred sometime, then it comes down to what and when. There will always be differences of opinion.

Personally, ilovehelen seemd to me a idiotic knob who added nothing. I would have barred him.

Iqbal was expressing a reasoned, if extreme, position. I would not normally have barred him.

Other people would draw the line at other places. cyprussydsafc decided to bar them both. Whatever. Somebody appointed him publican and so he makes the call.

I welcome Iqbals thoughts too. I welcome any thoughts, daft or otherwise. As long as you are not deliberately destroying a threa, then you shouldn't be banned. Just giving an opinion is not a crime, regardless how silly or otherwise your view may be. Nobody should be getting wound up by what they read on here regardless of the content. Its an internet forum.

    My thoughts exactly!

All I will say is that he and his family were the innocent victims of an absolutely meaningless act of madness, and I hope that he has found peace, and his family are left in peace to try and rebuild their lives...

I think you have to be careful with these threads. If you put them up, you're gonna get all of the comments applicable. For instance how many are aware of PC Rathbands domestic violence problems? Some say this had gone on a long time, some say only since the shooting. Regardless it is unacceptable and certainly paints a different picture of the "hero".

So when you post an RIP thread, you're kinda putting the person on a pedastal. If people don't think they belong on that pedastal, they're gonna air their views surely? If we start banning the likes of Iqbal and ilovehelen (who to be fair may be just trying to destroy a thread), you're going to get a very warped view of the subject matter. Takes allsorts in life unfortunately!

I have heard gossip about the pre-shooting domestic violence but have seen no evidence to back this up..However, this doesn't/shouldn't change anything regarding the devestation caused by the mindless acts of Moat..

Far to deep for me I'm afraid, this is not about the police, politics or the man's past. Its about a man who lost his sight doing a job for us then found he could not go on so took his life.

Ilovehelen is not wanted on this forum because he has one aim, to offend. The other chap is welcome on this forum but IMO not on this tread with his views.

Will everyone agree with me, no, that's life.
