I'm a little surprised that there isn't a memorial thread for Davy Jomes on here.

Whenever I hear The Monkies I am always transported back to long summer holidays from school, The Monkies on TV and not a care in the world. Thanks Davy for not only brightening up those days but leaving the ability to relieve them in my mind. <rose>

Few things I read on the net actually make me lol but that did! Funny in a respectful way. Think he would have enjoyed that one too!

I agree with that sentiment and Last Train to Clarkesville - absolute classic.

Great memories, strange that he looked the picture of health. RIP Davy <rose>

This is the sound of those great 60s days:

We all used to sing Cheer Up Sleepy Jean when we were being humped into relegation to League One. Gallows humour from our supporters as we slipped into potential oblivion.

Time to dust of the lyrics and start singing it again?

I have great memories of the Monkees and was a particular fan of Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz. The TV programs were zany, the music (written by various brilliant songwriters) had a joyful quality, all much appreciated by adolescents in the 60's. At the time, they came in for quite a bit of criticism for being a pale example of the Beatles, but it was never fair to make the comparison. The Monkees established their own identity and are now rightly feted.

Sad to hear this news. RIP Davy.

Very Sad but RIP only seems to come when after a death ... I am one to celebrate the living and am just getting into Neil Diamond and he is still alive

Sad about Davy. The Monkees were great.

Talking about flower power it reminded me of this great clip/song from The Producers

The Monkees were one of those bands it just weren't cool to talk about back then - but secretly we all loved 'em (kept that album at the back of me box and brought it out and let it rip when the geezers were out of earshot!).

Ooh I could hide 'neath the wings of a bluebird as she sings...

Cheers Davie boy. Top of an unforgetable era. Laters!

Rest In Peace.......thanks for the alternative to the norm.
Yes they were all manufactured, yes they couldn't play their instruments, but, they learnt, and say what you want about The Monkees, Davy Jones had a wonderful innocent voice.
I'll echo GroveRanger "We all used to sing Cheer Up Sleepy Jean when we were being humped into relegation to League One. Gallows humour from our supporters as we slipped into potential oblivion."
Defo have a crack at Sleepy Jean when Saturday comes.

Rest in peace? Not sure he'd want that. (But I know what you mean.)

I have this picture in my mind that when (if) I arrive at the pearly gates there will be St Peter their to greet me, a couple of angels will be accompanying the celestial choir on their harps ... and there would be this little fella with a pair of maracas dancing around singing "I'm a believer".

I can remember them playing Daydream Believer pretty much every week at LR around 1996/1997. Wonder if they'll dig it out tomorrow?

Really hope they don't play that 70s track they played last week before the players came out. That was embarrassing!!

I have a feeling they are going to play it again if a post on QPR's Facebook wall is anything to go by... Think it's a little dated!
