The big picture is that the advert COULD be deemed racist and has been pulled. It really does not matter why, who, when, how etc. once something is viewed as racist the little details do not matter. That is why Dalglish the buffoon fell into the trap set by reporters. He was trying to be clever. You can't be with racial issues. And he had to apologise in a most humiliating fashion.

It is really very silly to accuse an individual of being racist based upon an ad that that was never intended to be published in the UK and is capable of being interprited in many ways.

 

May be so. Many points that you and others could be viewed as valid but the most important point is "how do black people feel about it?" if they are very upset about it then he club would have to apologise. It does NOT matter what the arguments are. This exactly what happened with Suarez.

 

It's got nothing to do with the club. It's the player's individual image rights, not LFC's.
And it's nothing like what happened with Suarez. In fact the only similarity is that people like you are all over it like they've committed the worst crime known to man.

 

The ads not racist. However, Reina was rather naive to take part in it due to the delicate nature of the issue of racial discrimination and liverpool football club in recent times.

Are black people that downtrodden that a light-hearted Ad like this is going to hurt them? It's not like black people are typically abused for being homosexual as well, so I don't see how a play on the fact that Reina could be their Queen (a play on his surname as Reina is Spanish for Queen) is something that offends all black people and is therefore racist? Where is it in our society that black people are portrayed as stupid? Unless they were consistently portrayed as unintelligent animals then i'm not sure how this has any resonance. But then again my black friends are confident and self-respecting so they wouldn't look for a meaning in an advert.

I know people are doing their best to try and keep us down but it's just getting pathetic now. Are we not allowed adverts with vikings now as they portray Scandinavians as barbarians who kill and pillage? No portrayal of cowboys as it shows all Americans to be backwards and they use horseback instead of cars? How about no ninjas as it suggests oriental people are all martial artists? How about not showing a rickshaw in Mumbai as it suggests all Indians are merely taxi drivers?

Yes from now on all of these nations/races are represented by one group of people with an interesting culture/history used in an advert, and therefore all of us who watch the adverts make assumptions about the whole group. Yes in this information age people genuinely look for deep social commentary in adverts, and if they don't they're unknowingly influenced by them anyway right? The fact they're black has nothing to do with anything, it's the fact that these people are from a tribe cut off from the world is what allows the set-up for the joke. Plus many of the remaining tribes still use spears for warfare and hunting- i can provide links but don't want this to get ignored because some might find the photos 'light-hearted'- and nearly all of these tribes are from warmer climates and therefore have dark, or darker, skin (than white Western Europeans), so a tribe of Frenchmen for example would make no sense.

Christiansmith the fact that you're hoping Reina gets painted as racist, and that you would use racist stigma as a weapon in a football rivalry shows just how low on the food chain you are. I hate petty self-interested moral 'guardians' like you, you set the race issue back far more than any advert could as you're divisive and it takes the problem from being a seen one to an unseen one. Utd fans have been bleating on that 'racism is bigger than football', in which case take heed and stop ****-stirring just because your high horse let's you peer out of the gutter and the faux-morality gets your panties wet.
