He died in his sleep at his home in Florida. His publicist, Deborah Robicheau, said he had a massive heart attack. The band, who included musicians Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, were famous for hits including Daydream Believer and I'm a Believer. The Monkees were an American pop band, assembled in 1966. Jones was married three times and had four daughters. Early on in his showbusiness career he appeared as Ena Sharples's grandson in ITV soap Coronation Street. The band found fame through a successful television series, popular in both the US and the UK.
Yea,sad news,I'm of an age where I can remember watching the Monkees every Saturday before going out in the evening, very zany and quirky for those days and used to enjoy the music quietly as I used to think I was a bit of a purist and they were a bit middle of the road, their music has stood the test of time... David Jones, nice bloke...RIP
Yeh agree sad news. We have used the tune of daydream believer to sing "Cheer up Del McInnes, oh what can it a mean to a sad" well you know the rest. RIP little man.
I thought you were talking about the ex-Cardiff football manager for a minute there! Saw the Monkees in the Colston Hall back in the 90s before I moved up the M4. Fun night with some good music! RIP
Hope this means people of my age go looking for them now, as though they didn't write their own stuff, they were open to anything. Loved the film they did, Head. Skewered and took the piss out of their own success. "You say we're manufactured, to that we all agree, so make your choice and we'll rejoice in never being free." RIP, Mr Jones. Still a funny bloke if that doc about boy bands was anything to go by last week.
Technically the Monkeys were the first manufactured boy band. Sad news because he seemed like a nice guy
