at which games we can confirm promotion and be confirmed as Champions? I'm taking nothing for granted but for the first time I feel confident that we won't screw it up and I want to know which games I need to be dragging myself to on crutches! The maths are all very complicated and obviously change given the outcome of each round of fixtures, but we must be getting close to the point where we can safely say another 10, 15, 18 or whatever points will do it. Any pointy heads with calculators out there?
Some weeks ago I posted this, forecasting promotion in the bag by end February: http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...the-bag-by-end-February?p=2128999#post2128999 Of course, I received some politically correct replies with much talk of chickens, cups and lips, hubris, and what once happened to Mudley United in the Salford Gasworks League, but, let's face it, we are as good as up. If anyone doubts that, let them find a bookie who will accept a bet on Charlton getting promoted. Or to put it another way, can anyone find a case in the top four tiers of a club ever letting a lead like ours slip? Add to that, we are playing well, have no injury worries (apart from the phantom Alonso) and have proved that even on off days we can still scrape up the single points to keep us on target.
Yup Eddie, and I was one of those urging restraint. But something happened on Saturday during the second half and i think we are sailing now. There. I've said it! I need to go and lie down now.......
It would be magic if we did it at Carlisle, having sealed promotion there twice before (1981 and 1986 I believe). Cue chants of 'Can we play you every week?'
Yeah but I'm a selfish bugger, Jimbo - only the real fans who make the trek to Carlisle deserve to celebrate promotion
The instant I pressed the button on my last post I realised that I'd set myself up for that oned!!!! How big is Carlisle's stadium when ir isn't underwater? Guess we could take it over for the day. If its the clincher I'll be ther,e crutches or not!
This is by no means correct, however my predictions would be: As a few teams in playoffs have games in hand incl sheff united, we will have to wait till Tues 13th March to see how far we have got left. I do think from 13th March we will be guaranteed at least 6th place. (at this stage 85 points). Theoretically this should be enough to gain autos. I think promotion will be on ice till April at least, very big month ahead. I think come march 28th we will be on 88, sheff utd 79, MK 76, sheff we'd 73, udders 72. I believe April 9th, a victory against Walsall at home will see us just about over the line for automatic promotion. This will be due to our superior goal difference on Mk. However I think after the Easter matches, we would have been pegged back by sheff united, to within 7 points, with 12 to play for... Chesterfield will be officially relegated on the 14th April... Charlton Athletic will officially win the league title on the 21st April at home to Wycombe. Rochdale relegated the same day.. Stevenage fill the final play off spot also... Sheff United gain autos on second last game.. Last day season Yeovil, tranmere, scunny, and Walsall have tough games, 2 of those teams will go down. Tranmere and scunny play each otHer . That's how I think we"ll go..
I did start to calculate this last night but too many variables at this stage. However 101 points guarantee us Champions - just 26 points from 13 games. That's based on Huddersfield winning their last 14 games on the bounce. We can do something to stop them as we have to play them away and they'll have to attack. Looking good!
I tweeted Jako last night that is was 7 more wins! Glad he listerns! Seriously 21 more points will take us up as champions.
Jimbob, Obviously 'working from home' is busy for you today ! Dunno when we will make sure, but I'm sure gonna be there, regardless of where it is.
The earliest we can get promotion is Scunthorpe but we have to win our next five and Sheffield Wednesday / Huddersfield have to lose theie next five
