He only had just over ten minutes, something which didn't go down well with the crowd especially when Trap keeps persisting with McGeady/Hunt who yet again kept losing the ball and had no final product. McClean did nothing wrong but his introduction lifted both the crowd and the team and I felt if he had got a decent chance we could of got more out of the game. I feel that unfortunately Trap is stubborn and will not take McClean to the Euros as he tends to stick with the same old regime who don't fill us with confidence.

He's probably Crappelo's cousin or summat, Derry.

Well there's always the chance of injuries and the lad getting a place anyway. It often happens that someone comes into a squad late from apparently nowhere. However from a selfish point of view I'd rather he continues to progress for SAFC and things not happen too quickly for him !

I know what you mean Billy, but one thing for sure RTE punditry unlike the BBC will rip him apart for not giving the likes McClean/McCarthy/Coleman a chance.

I know what you mean silks as to be honest looking at the group Ireland are in at the Euros I don't hold out much hope for them.

Derry, are the Irish press owt like the English one, ie, just waiting for someone to fail just so they can rip them to bits?

Or are they just very supportive?

Press tend to be good to the players Billy, except that **** Eamonn Dunphy.

I have a feeling he will go to the Euros but dislodging McGeady from that left side will be the problem still despite the previously mentioned lack of end product

Well there's been some good stuff in the Northern Ireland papers & the Irish Times. What are the Irish journo's thoughts on the left wing then?

It's amazing the pressure crowds heap onto young kids playng football. I agree with how the press seek to destroy players but I can see why Traps would protect McClean, I'm sure he;d rather McClean was an unknown weapon in the finals. I just feel for the kid that a whole nation heaps expectations on hsi shoulders. Don't get me wrong we do it at Sunderland to and at the moment we are also forgiving if he looses the ball ( I bet Kevin Kilbane wishes we were as eager to support him).

I'm not having a go at anyone but with the way the press has us and the 24 hour coverage we seek to create superstars from 20 minute cameos. Look at Oxo chamberlain and the clammer for the young lad to start for England after a good 45 minutes against Blackburn. The lad did nothing against us and yet there was a media uproar he was ommited from the squad! Thing is if he got 45 minutes tonight and failed the media would throw the poor lad on the scrap heap.

Too much instant success required these days. How much did people expect from Henderson? Poor lad was slated on here week in week out by some yet I think he would be picked ahead of Larrson. Just think we need to get away from this whole three defeats in a row is a crisis culture, NO IT'S ****ING NOT!

    Rant over!

Can't disagree with any of that Tony, the problem with the press is that they tend to (as you say) protray some players as the next big thing without any evidence (consistency) to prove it. The thing about Trap is his Italion hard to beat menatilty and his surpression of talent making them into what looks like defensive robots. Don't get me wrong he has produced in that he has got us to the Euros but he is being payed alot of money and his stuborness often leaves everyone wondering what if?
