Paulo made an error wth the 3rd goal - but is forgiven for the fantastic penalty save. From what he has shown, I would be surprised if he doesn't retain his place even when Flitney is recovered.

    edit

I didn't give Paulo enough credit. Since his inclusion in the side he has played very well - making several great saves, and largely not to blame for the conceded goals - the 3rd Hereford goal was a rare mistake ( don't you all make the odd mistake ? ) and I wish him all success for the future - we need you to be the next Jason Brown ££££

I think Flitney is a good keeper, who was just off form, but have to say Paulo is better, he has a great future whereas Flitney is a goal keeper for this level, I personally like Flitney and upto 2012 he was 2nd place in my player of the year, with Lee top./

Flitney is rubbish. As bad as Julian. Gazzaniga is the only way to go and for the 3rd goal, the ball swerved horribly and the defence did nothing to help out.

Gazza's got promise but is still very young. 1 year or 2 under the study of Flitney will only improve his ability.

I have seen Flitney play quiet a few times now as well as I see Julian play loads and Julian was shocking where as I could trust Flitney, when he arrived at the club I worried as I thought why would we want a Dover keeper, however up to 2012 he was great, he made some brilliant saves and there was times where the defence were **** but he kept us in the game, something that Julian didn't do so I have to say you are wrong there as I think that was just a minor blip which may have been due to his injury.

Paulo is far from the finished article but distribution is amazing . I love the way he gets the ball forward quickly without giving the opposition defence time to get set.
We need to sign him long term because he is a bundle of cash waiting to happen !!!

I have seen Flitney play a lot also, don't be fooled by my Newcastle supporting ways, I go to the Gills regularly. I fear for us when we have Flitney in goal, he flaps at crosses, his shot-stopping is ok but prone to just letting the ball through him (Stoke game? He basically single-handedly lost us that one) and the less we talk about his distribution the better. There is a good reason why Flitney was non-league. Gazzaniga on the other hand can actually catch the ball (something I like in a keeper...) and his punches are decisive. He clears to our own players and never looks under pressure. To top all of that he has the right attitude. Mental fortitude is the best asset a keeper can have, and to come back from that SLIGHT error on the 3rd goal, to save the penalty was outstanding. AND he looks committed to the club. Sign him up for longer!

Hessenthaler seems to have found a gem! The position itself is the strongest we've had in a good few years.

I have to agree about Gazza, a great find and his enthusiasm and attitude are infectious and he is already a bit hit with the Rainham End in particular, Flitney is better than Julian and worth keeping as a back up. Gazza is still learning and will make the odd mistake but his accurate and quick kicking and overall ability make it worth bringing him on. Along with Tomlin the best two finds for a while. We need to keep them both on long term contracts.

Still calming down from Tuesday, what a game.

    UTG!!

Just got today's Sun and in the Goals section in a little yellow box in the bottom left hand corner of page 24 it says "GILLINGHAM'S Argentine keeper Paulo Gazzaniga is a target for Burnley and Southampton" couple this with Hess saying that scouts have been watching him and what do you get? Will Gazza be in the Premier league next season?

Gemini I admire your optimism - but it will take Gills a couple of seasons to reach the Premier !:cheesy: A few days ago I did post a comment about Gazza followed by 4 £ signs- I might update that with an extra £. It's pretty obvious that if he progresses at the same rate as up to now, Paulo will attract attention - we just need to maximise the money opportunity.

Has much as I would love to see the club clear its debt's that is certainly not something that will be resolved by the sale of Gazza. Therefore I could not think of any other reason to let him go if we have ambition to get out of League Two and at least stay in League One.

It is far to early to say how Gazza will develop going forward and whether he will remain consistent, however, I am impressed with what I have seen so far and would not swap him for any other lower league keeper. For once I actually got something right about a player when I first saw him!!!

alwaysright - btw I've just seen your signature...(my real name is Mr. I AM Infallible.............. semper jus.....I am also brb's minder !) - lol

I've just seen the footage from the Plymouth match and that save he pulls off in the first half is outstanding; making the save itself would have been applaudable but to keep hold of it rather than the parry is standing ovation. He's young and is enjoying learning the game at the club so I don't really see the need to sell him, especially if he's happy to stay.

We have two good goalkeepers, one of whom is an excellent prospect who can only get better.
Why even consider selling Gazza as he's signed a good long contract I believe. Sell him to a league one or championship side for them to sell on at a massive profit later on? I don't think so..........we did that with Steve Bruce albeit many moons ago. If Hessy has, as I think, come up with a gem he should a) be applauded for bringing him here and b) be encouraged to keep him.

With quality players coming in, there is no reason why we cannot, again, build a championship team...............providing we don't keep letting them go.

with all the injuries we may need Gazza upfront tomorrow. He is one goalkeeper who could easily score a goal. I think Flintly was doing well earlier in the season but same as the defence went off the boil. Gazza has done really well but is not the finished article yet although his distribution is fantastic.
