If the FA want role models in key positions they better steer clear of Flash 'Arry for manager then.

But you a forgetting that the FA are hypocrites :). They moan about FIFA but they themselves are also unelected rich big shots who dictate what they expect from others eg. such as Capello keeping quiet about the Terry issue then do something else behind their backs.

I couldn't care less if Parker is made captain for tonight. I hope it means that Gerrard will play no more than 1 half - now that's more important to me.

I think the appointment of Scott Parker is an ok decision but I doubt the new full time manager will folow it up - which is a shame!

I think England need a new full time skipper who is young... someone with a bit of passion for the international stage Milner or Hart would be my choice

Both are decent choices, although at present I am not sure Milner is a guaranteed starter. I would stick with Parker until after Euro 2012 and if they have more of an idea of which youth players will be in the team then pick someone new then. Personally, while I think Hart would be fine, I think all this nonsense about a goalkeeper not making a captain will precede him.

Hopefully Gerrard will retire from internationals after the euros.

Not bothered. Didn't see much point in Stevie being captain anyway, as he's (supposedly) considering retiring from international duty.

Good choice. He is captain material and it's not good to have Gerrard's ego too big.

I'm happy for him to captain his club and play for his country without even more pressure.

  11. People may have already seen this but hey ho...

Last nights starting eleven had 223 caps between them, Steven Gerrard provided 40% of them, Scott Parker just 5%. The average caps per player would be just over 20 each, Scott Parker was picking up his twelfth last night.

Whoever the new manager turns out to be, he will want to stamp his authority on the side and squad. Normal practice suggests this is done by appointing their captain. What if the next manager has already been agreed but due to existing circumstances it is best to keep it quiet until nearer the Euro's? What if this said manager wants Gerrard (as the obvious candidate) to be his captain? Maybe Parker was picked as an alternative? Or maybe Pearce genuinely thought Parker would be the best option? If it is the latter then he needs removing from the England set up asap IMO

Long term captain should be one of James Milner, Micah Richards or Wayne Rooney. All three have experience of either captaining a top side or playing in a successful team. All three will be around for a few tournaments to come and, IMO, will be three of our key players too.

the players should have voted with thier feet and not turend up I'm furious gerrard chosse to go to england duty when he played 120mins last weekend. he's an idiot imo for doing it.

with a caretaker in charge they should have made that a b match cos it was pointless.

For me ther eis only one LONG TERM candidate and that persons is certainly not nor will be micah richards who reputedly is a flash git... rooney is a luaghable suggestion really... joe hart is the only guy to go for.

he would have been hung out to dry by the media and most likely any future England management.

  14. I agree in principle, just don't agree with the keeper being captain. However, England should have at least four or five captains on the pitch so whoever wears the armband is irrelevant really. All the captain does different is pre-match stuff, coin toss and, the all important bit of the role, lifts the trophy if the team manages to win one. In reality, England aren't going to do the latter for a while which, to me, makes the captaincy a little pointless at international level.

Dont know what all the fuss was about Pearce's choice as England captain for a friendly.

When 'Arry takes over in time for the Euros Paul Scholes will be captain, after all its been mooted that only 'Arry could tempt him back into international football and the captaincy would probably be the incentive.

    Triffic
