i have not seen a better footballing team than us in the championship on our day,. Only goals have stopped us from walking away with this league this season and thats not fanciful optimism at all, just FACT.!!!

but as someone else posted last week, some Hull City fans will be on suicide watch the way they are thinking. ive always been an optimist then again thats a major requirement for being a Hull City fan. as for fanciful ? not really. lol.

I don't think you'll find any City fan who doesn't think we're playing good football and other than the disaster that was Leeds away, we've pretty much matched or bettered every team we've played in the league this season.

Where the difference lies, is that some of us don't think that some teams will lose form just because we'd like them too and some of us are nervous of the fact that we've been dominating teams and not winning games. How we didn't take six points from Donny is beyond me and there's many other draws that should have been wins and even losses that should have been wins(like Derby at home).

We start scoring goals, then we'll start winning games and we'll make the play-off's, we keep on going as we have recently and we're likely to fall just short, we're simply not winning enough games and banking on others screwing up for us to get there is not a decent strategy for promotion.

To be honest, I'm enjoying watching the football we're playing, I don't think it's the end of the world if we don't make it this season, I'm just slightly concerned that we're going to miss out when we shouldn't have done and I'm worried about the effect that will have on some of our players(at least one of our most important players is already disappointed that we didn't sort our striking issues in the Jan window).

I agree about the quality of our team, but I think you're being a bit fanciful to say that other teams will fall away. There's no more likelihood of others taking their foot off the gas than there is for us to.
Middlesbrough are in the same boat as as us with a good team that can't find the net, Brighton have a lot of decent players and now seem to be regainining their early season form after a bad dip and Blackpool (who also have a good squad) are looking stronger as the season goes on. I don't think we can expect any favours, it's down to City to assert themselves now and grab the prize.

Lately I'm feeling the same as westhulltiger is. I cimpletely agree that there isn't a better side than us at playing football. But the fact that we can play out of our skins and still miss every chance, where the other teams can have an off day and still score 3 goals looks like being the difference.

    I'll say it.
We are **** at scoring goals and don't deserve to be in the play offs at the minute.
Hope that things change, but I don't buy into this we play great football ****.
I want to see us play great football and score some goals, more than one per game while we're at it aswell.
In my head we are not ready for the play offs, couldn't stand it if we scrape into 6th place then get done, rather just miss out and have a real go next season with some strkers who score.

I know what you mean, but nothing pisses me off more than seeing teams that are no better than us having a right old laugh in the promotion spots while all our good play is wasted and we sit around 8th in the table. I know some older fans are used to us being crap for the majority of their lives, but that doesn't mean we should all just expect it forever. None of the teams above us have any right to be there or have anything amazingly special getting them there and we are just as well equipped (apart from in the striking department) as those teams to mount a promotion push. We really should be much higher than we are at the moment.

Nobody disagrees with the fact that Hull City should be and Would be cemented into the Top 2 by now If we could score the goals. The games that stand out and annoy the heck out of me for lost points are the 2 Burnley games which should have been 6 points Won not lost. The 2 Brighton games which should have been 4 points Won not just 2 and the Doncaster games which should also have been 4pts not just 2. Thats 10 points already which would have us joint 2nd with West Ham and 1point off Southampton with 2 games in hand. If you add on all the other games such as Blackpool, Palace, Derby @ Home and the away games @ Bristol City, Barnsley, Southampton, Middlesboro and even Birmingham City thats anything from 10 - 13 points Lost due to a lack of goals despite playing well. But we are where we are and whilst disappointing the fans have to keep beleaving. The Manager and players are quite well aware of the problem. They are the ones who can solve the problem. Its no good one of our better players(olm post) lamenting about a lack of jan transfer activity is it ? They have all missed good chances in games already. Whatever it is they do in training I hope that shooting practice and one on ones play a large part. Yes it would be a shame if we missed out But the players would only have themselves to blame if we did. 45 POINTS left to play for So lets go for it. UTT

whatever the outcome, you can't argue that it isn't keeping us interested! As everyone has been flagging what a difficult March we have coming up, I took a look at the fixtures for all the teams.

we have 9 games, 4 home, 5 away. Of those 3 are against other teams in the promotion race, 2 are against a team in relegation trouble and 4 are against teams that are comfortably mid table with little chance of going up or down. Of the other teams in and around the promotion race no one really has a schedule that stands out as being much different. 4 out of the 7 games Blackpool have are against promotion rivals and none are against the relegation zone teams so they have - potentially - the toughest March. Reading have possibly the easiest (just 1 against another team in the promotion race, 3 against relegation zone teams).

Coming out of March my prediction is

    1. Southampton
    2. West Ham
    3. Reading
    4. Birmingham
    5. Cardiff
    6. Brighton
    7. Hull
    8. Middlesbrough
    9. Blackpool

I think there will be 1 point between 4-7 and our goal scoring problems really coming back to bite putting us at a disadvantage.

I am going to add April to the analysis as time permits.

Birmingham have to play 10 games now in march due to there fa cup replay with chelsea and a re-arranged leagyue match. If they beat Chelsea that will be 12 games to play before easter. interesting, very very interesting.

Where did you get that from, Frenchie? According to the FL website, Birmingham have 14 games left (they have played 32), 7 in March, 7 in April. Their midweek game next week has already been moved to April 3rd to make way for the cup replay, hence the reason that they & Burnley have 7 games in April when the rest of the league has 6.

If Birmingham get through, they will play Leicester on 18/03. The Birmingham/Middlesbrough game (currently 17/03) will then need to move and of course there is the potential of replays.

If either Birmingham or Leicester progress to the Semis the dates are 14/15 April.

I completely agree with OLM's post above, maybe I am a bit pessimistic but I would like to think more of a realist personally

Its actually 11 games before easter subject to them getting to the fa cup semi's. If they beat chelsea then there home game with Middlesboro(due to be played on 17th march) will have to be re-arranged. The price of success eh ?

yes they have moved some fixtures around and not many mid-week dates left either. I wonder if they will lose on purpose to Chelsea next week ? there fixture list is almost running at 2 games a week for the rest of the season.

They'll play exactly the same amount of games as us between now and the end of the season(unless they beat Chelsea, which is unlikely).

They have one less league game left to play, but have one FA Cup game to make up for it, what other games do they have?

over the season Birmingham will play far more than Hull City. there remaining fixture list is worse than ours which is why it would not be a bad thing from there point of view to get knocked out by Chelsea. thats all.

theb facts do matter and the main factor is that Birmingham have more games to play than Hull City. Fact. Even worse if they were to knock Chelsea out. time will tell.
