To be honest Jonesey, no. I would obviously like to see Stevie G to get a good stint at being captain, but the fact that our caretaker manager has picked Parker for a friendly doesn't really bother me. The choice made by the eventual replacement for Capello will be more important. What I do find interesting is that Parker has been picked ahead of others, he wasn't one of the favorites to be picked and, whilst I Haven't watched every Spurs game this season, I don't think he's been anything special this season. Don't get me wrong, he's been good, but this and him being voted Englands player of the season has baffled me a bit.
He is well behaved off the pitch. No skeletons like Rio, John or DJ Stevie. Holding midfield is better with him than Barry.
I can understand the reason for selecting him, not many players offer to shake hands to the ones they fouled and there's no doubt he is a good role model in the modern game. This decision also tells me that he is a dead cert to start the game and Gerrard is not...which is good news for us before the weekend.
Don't think good behaviour off the pitch has anything to do with who gets the armband do you?...its just a Landan thing...keep the cockerknee hacks 'appy innit gavvna
Hype over experience. Crap decision. It should be Gerrard, for as much as no club fan is interested, many club players want to captain their country. Or they used to want to. Let's face it without 'Arry Spurs would be ****e. I don't see what's all that special about Parker. He didn't stop West Ham from going down.
Maybe Gerrard might have stood a better chance if he hadn't elbowed someone in the Cardiff match. It being the third time he's got away with doing it that I know of.
Could have been something to do with his other ten colleagues? I don't know, just a thought. Otherwise, a steady enough captain, can't see it means a massive deal and it gives Gerrard a little less pressure to perform if anything.
I think Parker has helped a fair bit in their league position. But he is suspended for the Utd game which may mean that they will get steamrollered over unfortunately. Then they play Everton and Chelsea....if those results don't go their way they could be dragged into the battle for 4th.
Yeah that's the reason how stupid that none of us realised it So just so my pea brain can get this straight...Gerrard didn't get it because he ran into someone and "got away with it" and Parker got it because he didn't "get away" with his tackle on Sunday that was a ****e tackle and saw him sent from the field? Now I think about it it all becomes clear As a Red I'm glad he didn't get it and I have no issues with Sparker gettin the armband...but let's not pretend this isn't because ones a savverner an ones a norvener
What does an international captain actually do other than decide heads or tails? I can understand it within a club team as the players have a constant leader figure week in week out but internationally it doesn't make sense so on that note.. meh, good luck to Parker, I hope he guesses correctly before kick off
Which would then be a battle for 3rd. Personally I don't even want Stevie to play, although I'm sure he himself would have loved to be skipper. Sod internationals, roll on Saturday.
I know this is the Liverpool board so I may get some criticism for saying this but I think Parker is a brave decision but probably the right one instead of Gerrard. Gerrard is by no means at his fittest and does not look the player he was, so I am not sure his place is guaranteed in the starting XI for the the Euros at present. Finally, the FA demanded that the England captain was a role model so if they picked anyone with any murky misdemeanours in the past then it would be difficult to explain the sacking of Terry.
True. I don't know what I would prefer...obviously would love to see Spurs beat off Utd and Chelsea...but if we were to keep up and there was a close battle between 3rd - 7th. Have to beat Arsenal first.
