i'd argue the money people pay for sky is worth it for sky + alone, a fantastic innovation that is probably one of the biggest progressions in TV since it went colour. you cannot deny murdoch has revolutionised TV for the better, whatever the failings of news corporation.

i agree about being charged for only football, that would be nice. the only sport i watch on sky is football, occasionally tennis, but you still pay £20 a month for sky sports regardless. i'd love to defect to virgin or BT, but they're both crap and cost roughly the same for alot less....<ok>

BTW, i dont buy the sun, its scum.

Virgin Media have a good setup with TiVo. Shame you can't get it in most places.

i cant get the cable thingy where i live, i believe our household pays about £60/month for phone internet and TV, £700 a year for everything, we used to get ripped of like £25 / month for crappy internet from BT, we get unlimited everything and suddenly i just noticed we get eurosport for free, lovely <ok>

My mate has Tivo, but its really user unfriendly. The menu system is rubbish and you have to put a pin in every other channel, I wouldn't recommend switching. Maybe if sky lose their monopoly on PL football they will have to get more creative with the sports packages which would be good for everybody.

You can go to matches, do other things to support your team.

You could do... But Anfield doesn't have a 4,000,000 capacity (estimated UK & Ireland Fanbase) so you have to look at other methods to watch and support your team. I understand that the BBC runs match of the day but that's no comparison to actually watching the game live, even if it is on sky.

the fans DO do other things to support Liverpool FC, you only have to look at the amount of shirts that are brought year in year out and the fact that Liverpool FC is one of the few clubs which runs at a profit without having to rely on European football but when push comes to shove, if you own every shirt, have every autograph, camp outside Melwood with your face painted red and "You'll never walk alone" tattooed on your bollocks, it's still nothing compared to actually watching the games.

As for '+' boxes. I have "Freeview +" as I refuse to have sky and I live in a new house in a non-cabled area (which has also resulted in me having the worst broadband in the world!!)

Awesome. I have no qualms in proclaiming Al Jazeera to be possibly the best mass scale media outlet at the moment. Despite the arabic origins, their coverage is truely international (except in the US with only one or two cable providers actually carrying the network) and is surprisingly unbiased.

Fact: did you know al jazeera gave more coverage to the occupy NY protests than Fox news, CNN, NBC and ABC combined?

I didn't, but it doesn't really surprise me. I'm sure they were all over it like a rash, for obvious reasons I would have thought.

Obvious reasons? Their coverage of it was little more than passing coverage and not a fervorous camaign of bigging it up. The fact that a passing coverage of events with a little bit of contribution on the subject in the opinion columns by American academics is more than the 4 biggest American media outlets combined is a damning indictment of the state of the media over there and their motives.

Mate, I'm with Virgin and I'm really pleased with it

I pay about £90 a month, but for this I get:

    1 V+ Box
    2 ordinary boxes
    Unlimited FAST broadband
    HD
    Free telephone calls
XL TV Package (all sports, all films)

I think the only Channels we don't get are Sky Atlantic (and from what I've seen of their commercials, I'm not missing much) & Sky Sports 4

Appreciating you're not paying directly into Mursoch's coffers, but don't Virgin pay for the privelage of showing Sky channels? I don't know. I've never had either.

Erm Barca.. Real Madrid are a state funded club. Francos team ffs

Listen, if all, ALL clubs were owned by fans, lets see, we'd control TV money Sponsorships wages ticket prices and so on, instead of ever increasing wages and transfer fees things would get cheaper rather than the same old pockets filling up.

yes, a while back they made a big thing about being ripped off by sky for their sky sports packages, they buy the right to screen sky sports packages, they are at the mercy of sky. i believe it costs roughly the same if you compare sky sports packages across the different providers <ok>

I don't have Sky. I live in a non-cabled area (even though the cable runs 1 mile away down the side of the motorway!). So I either use my mates Sky Go a/c or take a feed off the net. I really like it when that feed has Fox Soccer all over it - hahaha!

If another provider was to outbid Murdoch then that's fine by me. Until then, as others have said, I'll have to 'sup with the devil' one way or another

I usually watch it on foreign channels, but I suppose they're all buying the rights from the prick anyway.
    You just can't escape him.
I really hope someone does outbid him, I can't think of anyone I'd less like to give my dosh to.
    Except maybe MUFC TV.

My local have a decoder....it's quite refreshing when they are playing Sky Sports without the pint glass in the corner of the screen. <ok>
