I'm following WW2 in real time on Twitter and just got this tweet:

I'd be happy if our current government also banned such foolishness. Discuss.

P.S. No spoilers please. I don't want to know who won.

Don't know if you've ever read Sophie's World but the philosophy teacher at the end of that decries all of the quasi-mystic pish by suggesting that they filled the void for the weak-minded left when dogmatic religion has ebbed away.

He also suggests that the allowance of this stuff to be taken seriously basically is killing formative critical thought and philosophy in the modern age.

Jostein Gaarder knows the score, man <ok>

Quite honestly it is debatable who won.

Germany did best out of it so they won in the end.

    It all goes in cycles.

    Germany invade Poland (with tanks)

Britain invade Germany (with tanks and yanks)

Poland invade Britain (no tanks :) )

If it were not for Japan, America and Russia we would be speaking German.

Just as well the Irish did their bit because there is no way the short arsed ginger leprechauns would have fitted into the ayrian ideal of physical perfection.

America less so. Pretty much just Russia. Hitler had to concentrate over 2/3s of his army to the eastern front as the battle of stalingrad started to drag on. Western europe was left under manned and under fortified. Even in that condition had Hitler listened to Rommel and not been such and egotistical meglomaniac then not a single American/Brit/Canadian would have made it off the beach on D-day

Yes it is indeed but like all mainland European languages it's based primarily on Latin. Which came from the Romans<ok>

That aside they did **** all for us.

    Jacky in anti-american post shocker.

So your saying the mighty ****ing russian empire would've crushed germany all by its lonesome? funny i seem to remember them needing constant aid from both america and britain.

    Must be another conspiracy.

Yes, they pretty much did do it by themselves. And while they asked for aid, the supply of it was very limited. In fact that was one of the reasons that left Stalin so bitter, the fact that he felt Russia had been essentially abandoned by the allies and had to fight the war themselves

Stalin was a bitter **** full stop.

Yeah just write off the efforts of every country that made the effort.

Ireland's contribution was phenomenal right enough.
