Finally Bates did something right, we signed Warnock, I am not saying that sacking Grayson was right but either way, Redfearn in charge was a terrible mistake. After weeks of being miserable with happenings around Elland Road I finally felt quite optimistic to hear that we had Warnock coming to us, maybe also out of fear that we might end up with Redfearn full time or worse still an Ince, Bruce or Keane in charge.

0-2 down to Doncaster we hear that Warnock went into the dressing room and second half we managed to pull it around 3-2 and my levels of optimism went sky high. Less than a week on I read about Warnocks get out clause, we manage a bore draw 0-0 and we sign a 30 year old player that is out of contract, his goal scoring record is poor and I hear the likes of Birmingham, Southend and Huddersfield said no to him after trials with each.

I read that we are after ageing left and right backs, ageing midfielders in the likes of super spy Derry a center back that we could not possibly afford to keep at the end of the season and my optimism drops once again realising that Warnock is not going to receive any funding...

I am expecting more than ever that he will walk at the end of the season when he gives his 'shopping list' to Bates and not only will we be managerless we will have even more dead wood to shift. I so hope I am wrong and that Warnock can work some kind of magic with the targets he is after.

I just wish Warnock would write this season off and start building for next, we need to get rid of the dead wood and start looking at who we want in a starting 11 next season. Redfearn in charge lost us a pile of points, from that moment on our season was well and truly finished.

In terms of signing players, the only options are free transfers and loans, so there really isn't that much available in terms of players. According to a few Birmingham journalists, BCFC were set to offer Webber a contract last week, until Warnock stepped in.

Warnock was brought in because in Ken Bates own words we need a manager who can get more out of what we have got. If Warnock is saying I can't get anything out of half of them as they are crap we need to start targetting who is staying and what positions we are going to be looking at strengthening.

I hope Warnock can get something special out of Webber and I hope he is one that takes us forward next season but I have strong doubts.

Please don't let this happen, Neil. :(

What's wrong with that lineup? Apart from 3 out of 4 of the back line are loan.

Sarcasm springs to mind ;) I think he was pointing out to myself that IF we got all targets it wouldn't look too bad... More likely we shall end up with Derry and Webber

Mills and Lees at centre looks pretty mint to me even if we have to have Aidy White or Danny Pugh at left back.

I hope we don't get either Edwards or Robinson - too old.

I'd take Mills on loan. We have a chance this season, don't write it off just yet.

Mathematical chance yes as do several teams below us but it isn't going to happen. The top teams have a far superior goal difference, Hull have two games in hand and the rest have one all apart from Brighton. Any defeat for us in the next four matches is curtains as we are playing the teams above us. Warnock was in charge for the Portsmouth game, he showed he isn't a magician. Maybe if we can strengthen the squad before the Southampton game and snatch a win it will look rosier...

No proper wingers. Centre midfield likely to get overrun. Weak, old full-backs.

I'm willing to give Warnock a chance, and I think he's a good manager, but I'm not optimistic about the backing he'll get and I think these are second-rate players even by his standards. Admittedly it's because we only have the loan window left, but I don't think our record of permanent transfers will be much better.

I think me and Josh are starting to form the early 'caution brigade'.

Make that three of us then, I have doubts Warnock will succeed not because he is a poor manager, far from it I think he is excellent at this level and at getting teams promoted. I would even stick my neck out and say better than Grayson however, without funds or should I say average funds at least we are always going to be an average team in an average position. We are not expecting Warnock to turn several average players into promotion winning ones, we are hoping he can turn quite poor players into only average.

I don't know what happened last season, we really should never have finished as high as we did, hats off to Grayson for that and to the goals from Gradel and Snoddy in midfield at vital times and the back-up from Somma when Becchio wasn't firing. I might bookmark this thread so I can point to it next season when it is quite likely that Warnock walks out due to false promises and lack of funding and when Huddersfield sail past us with Grayson giving a two finger salute to Bates and showing us what he can do with proper backing.
