When was the last time a top class player said they wanted to join CFC?

Was it Modric? (not counting De Bruyne/Willian as most would agree they're not top class) Before that, I can't even remember. Makes me sad tbh... recently players that we have apparently had our eye on have come out and said they want to stay with their current clubs or join someone else:

Gregory Van Der Wiel - wants to join Valencia
Jan Vertonghen - wants to join spuds
Igor Akinfeev - wants to stay
Hazard - refused to rule out a move to spuds

and that's just in the last couple of months. Now I know a lot of it is down to agents and dodgy journo's blatantly making stuff up but I've lost count of the players that we've missed out on who have since joined other clubs over the last few seasons by being too cautious:

    Aguero
    Robinho
    Falcao
    Coentrao
    Pastore
    Khedira
    Ozil
    Neymar apparently
    Vargas
    Sanchez

To be fair, Mata and Ramires have been great, and Luiz is getting better all the time but I challenge anyone that says they'd rather have Torres over any player on that list.

    Sad face :(

Silva said he wanted to join Chelsea before City snapped him up.

A certain Stevie G had his head turned too <whistle>

Also, you have to remember a lot of the **** you hear is shallow bullshit from the papers and hardly any of it is true.

I'm not surprised a lot of those players turned down a move!

I sometimes see us as career enders!!

Robinho, Falcao and Aguero all wanted to come to us but for different reasons didn't happen. Most of the rest on your list went to Madrid or Barca, no one can compete with that. Neymar has yet to move and Pastore bottled it and went for an easy life in France.

Despite them not working out, we've managed to sign Torres and Shevchenko. Can't remember even United ever signing players with that level of standing in the game / reputation.

I appreciate what you're saying but a couple of those player we could have signed but dilly-dallied about for far too long. We were linked with Aguero for a couple of seasons, Coentrao was strongly linked with us for quite a while. Also doesn't detract from the fact that ultimately none of them joined us. And as far as Torres and Shevchenko are concerned, maybe the other top european clubs recognised their days were numbered or at least they were overpriced?

Right now, can't see why any player would want to come to us before our competitors. We are a dysfunctional, unsettled club with a reputation for stifling prospective players, and paying over the odds for has beens. Virtually no one climbs out of our junior ranks, and we can't even offer top money anymore. Man City and the Russians have got us beat there.
And all of this is self inflicted by an impetuous owner who never seems to learn from mistakes, and who surrounds himself with , and listens to, sycophantic "mates " instead of solid football people.
Retaining AVB for next season and putting some stability back into the club, is the only way to turn things around. Lots for them upstairs to ponder.

Could be worse,he could listen to the tabloids...oh wait, where did you get your info that RA listens to his 'mates' from exactly? Know him do you?
It's his club and he can do anything he ****ing likes.3 Prems is more than I ever dreamed of.If he shut us down tomorrow I'd still be thankful.Ungrateful ****ss like you piss me off.

No , only met the man 4 times. But I have eyes, and I am aware of all the people who have come and gone from the club since RA arrived, all those in advisory, management roles including advising on new players, directors of Football and the like.
More than aware who owns the club, and of course he can do what he wants, no one is suggesting otherwise. Suggest you take a few anger management classes, because you lose the ability to communicate when something bothers you.
This thread is about whether players will still want to come to CFC and if not why not.
So if that's too big an idea to grasp, take your foul mouth and small brain, put a plastic bag on your head and breath in hard.

There tends to be a much bigger paycheck at CFC than most clubs. Real, Barca and Man C apart--they will get the biggest hand outs here! Sick--isn't it?

You are making as many presumptions there as Chelsea Pensioner, yet I think his notions are slightly more likely than otherwise. It doesn't take a genius to look at the likes of Buck and Gourlay and in particular Emenalo and then look at clubs like Real Madrid, AC Milan, Barcelona and who they have in the same respective positions to realise there's something a bit off. Even the spuds are getting more for their money out of Comolli. From this and another post I made a few weeks back, I don't understand how you can possibly think Emenalo is the right man for the job, have you looked at his pedigree?

Its a funny thing but money talks and B.S. walks. Roman has doled out the money in abundance. For me the rotating coaching carosel is a bleepin' joke. No top tier player will buy into AVB's system if they think and rightfully so that he has one foot out the door.

    Big changes are coming.
