both tough question, if I knew the intent of the owners in the summer or if one would attract more players than the other I could give a better answer.
again let me ask you king the SAME question. would you rather win the league (yeah right) or the europa... or would you consider yourself able to win both if you bothered? We'll play every game to win and try our best... end of. grandstanding and setting targets are for the press we'll just turn up and hope to see in each game 100% effort and drive to win.
I would absolutely be happy to go out of the EL if it meant we were more likely to win the PL. I think SAF has the same view - he rested plenty of players for the Ajax match and effectively sacrificed a comfortable passage to the next round to make sure players like Rio, Evans and Evra were rested for the important game against Norwich. And I doubt you'll see a particularly strong line up in Bilbao, what with a tricky trip to Wolves just three days after. You actually have one match to be rearranged from the LC final, one match for the FAC QF and potentially two more from the FAC SF and final (potentially even more if there are replays). Which could make it pretty tight what with only about eight mid week slots between now and the end of the season. I'm definitely concerned that if we go all the way in the EL we'll have another six games to fit in, which will mean 5 games in 13 days at some points. Tho' reassured by the fact that City face the same issue, and SAF is willing to rotate and put fringe players like Berbatov and Park in for European games. Actually I was quite happy about the 5th round break - gave us a rest in between the two European matches. And we don't get any break for the 6th round. You are right that the cup can spur people on to perform, but it can also distract them. At least for us we know the PL is the absolute number one priority with the EL just a little bonus, whereas for Liverpool it's hard to say one of them would be an absolute priority now the LC is in the bag.
I'd rather we won the league. I'm not saying either you or ourself are not capable of attaining both of our goals I'm simply asking which one you would prefer to achieve or choose to achieve if you had to pick.

"little bonus" I will not pick any goal above the other BUT i will say that anything other than winning a trophy is not seen by me as a victory. Unlike spuds fans i don't see 4th as an amazing achievement to be glorified as its only a qualifier to a european comp where as actually winning a pot is something for the record books always. We'll try our bes tin every game and should have plenty of legs in us given how "rested" carroll, gerrard, suarez and downing have been... we'll manage to try our best and WOn't be distracted. I know that much for sure. our manager will not allow that.
