I'm very happy about our cup win yesterday the first of many more to come under the new KK era. Although I wouldn't of begrudged Cardiff if they had won as I thought they battled hard and played some good stuff at times, LFC should have really wrapped this one up within the 90mins. If we had scored the first goal yesterday i think we would have won by 3 or 4 goals as Cardiff defended their lead resolutely, but LFC's game plan looked poor. I haven't seen suarez and carrol play that badly this season, its almost as if they were trying to pass it into the net with both taking to much time on the ball and trying to thread a cute pass through. Gerrard and Adam also played too deep and should have been better at steaming into the penalty area as there was a big gap there for knock backs from Carrol. Kuyt and Bellamy, played really well when they came on and i think maybe should have started the game although as people have already said its good to blood in the younger players. Our defensive play was also good other than the two silly mistakes for the goals. So the question is why are we not using Kuyt more as he is clearly the best goal poacher in the team at the moment. Unlike Bellamy he is not really suited to the wing although he has had some good games there this season, if you give him the ball within ten yards of the goal you have to bet on him to score as he showed again yesterday. Often Kuyt is criticized when he starts for not being physical enough and getting muscled off the ball to easily, but he is the our only striker atm that is likely to score given a shooting opportunity. So well done lads although the football wasn't the best you gave us another nail biting final to the annoyance of all the Wum's waiting in the wings which is always good, but come on KK Kuyt has shown his worth lets give him more game time.
GOD NO!!!! look guys he's been tried about a 1000 times and doesn't deliver there. he came on in extra time ran about (and rightly so) got a nice break and hit it and it went in... great form him, great for us but god no way should he start up front againt prem oppoistion cos he's just to slow. Suarez and hendo were awful yesterday it must be said but they'll learn form it i hope. dirk got his goal and medla and fiar play to him for standing up and delivering but there's a day for everyone and his is not goignt o be long term. i do agree that fine if you give him the ball as in GIVE IT RIGHT TO HIM he's a good finisher but the fact is he's neither tall enough nor fast enough to get to a through ball on the gound or i nthe air so he's just not able to score the type of gaols i'd love us get someone to score. suarez nor carroll can either but they've got thier assets too.
But surely Suarez is the best person to create the space then give it to Kuyt to score. I think he has fantastic positional sense unlike Carroll and he's a good finisher in the area. I agree he does have his down sides like no presence in the air, but I think he has the same if not more pace than Carroll and better positioning than Suarez.
eh.... welll..... the thing is no matter what unless you are talking about putting it on a tee for kuyt he's got to run and beat a man to a ball, now as much as we don't like it rooney, defoe and others all have pace and dirk doesn't. I have seen him being beaten in countless foot races to balls this year and so i cannot see him play up top successfully. I do agreekuyt knows where he wants to be and can see the danger zone just like maxi but neither man has the ability to get there. carroll looks lazy but he can get there when he needs to. i've been him come alive when he thinks something is on.. i wish he would do more of that.... also suarez was our worst player nearly yesterday so i think he's got to do better. Carroll missed 6 chances on goal yesterday, all over the bar but he gave cardiff a hard time and played for the team too... i think he's becoming heskey and in case anyone else forgot owen in 2001 needed heskey.... We just don't have an owen at the minute.
sometimes you just have to get the basics right and neither Carroll or Suarez have been doing that recently, give Kuyt a chance thats all im saying.
I've always felt that Kuyt has the intelligence and good movement to compensate his lack of pace and technical ability. I thought he might be a good player to link well with the likes of Suarez, Downing and Bellamy (on paper) but he just seems to struggle when given the chance. But yesterday he did show his class, albeit against tired legs - always steps up in the big games and I'm glad he finally won his first trophy with the club. Great professional.
Well all I can say is that Dirk and Maxi could do no worse a job that Luis and Andy. The question is, do we give up on our front two and risk starting again at this point of the season??
well.... you have to say suarez was really poor and needs to start delivering again. thats just a fact of the issues he's had. Andy... well he's got to play his own game cos i think he's another heskey, he can do a particluar job so its kind of up to us to get the best out of him and i'm not sure we can adapt enough. I hope he adapts and runs a bit morecos i am sure he can do better.
Skrtels the answer to our goal scoring problems Seriously I know the arguments against Kuyt but you could make a lot more against Mandy at the moment. I still hope Carroll will come good but he was very average again yesterday and we need to really be working him hard in training to get his movement and positional play up to scratch.
Loved it when he came on and scored - what a legend he is! However he's not clinical enough. He definately deserves a run in the team though.
It was Carrols worst game in a good month or so, albeit in a massive game. Carroll and Suarez will both have off games, it wont be their first or their last. I have faith in Carroll and I'm sure he has a future for Liverpool. Kuyt is a man for the big occasions, when you need some one to step up and deliver it will be him, but it's against the so called 'lesser teams' that we struggle against and more often than not he doesn't play to his ability against them. If you watch any clips or old matches of Carrolls days at Newcastle his strength was always attacking the ball, it's like he's forgotten what to do as a number nine, he drops deep and hangs at the edge of the box waiting for cut backs and rebounds, in a way he does what Suarez should be doing. It seems like a minor problem, especially as attacking the ball was always his strength. But worryingly he's been like this for a year now and it's up to him to start taking the risks and getting in to the positions or he might end up being dropped. Like i said earlier though he has made a lot of progress these last couple of months and we shouldn't overlook that. And we all know that Suarez has quality, he's already scored twice since being back. Also another damaging factor us going forward for us is Lucas being out. We all know he's a fantastic DM but with him out it really hinders Adams and Gerrards attacking abilities. Adam has no positional sense and Gerrard isn't effective as a DM. We also miss the passing accuracy of Lucas, he always kept things ticking over and it wasn't all backwards and sideways passing.
