Cardiff got to Wembley by stealing our transfer list and coaching staff and without beating proper Premier League opposition, but to be fair to them they did put up a hell of a fight today. Still, a cup run is one thing, overhauling Birmingham, Blackpool, Reading, the so-so's and West Ham is another. The next two months will show what Cardiff are really made of.
I surprised myself... I found myself cheering Cardiff's equaliser... something to do with them being the underdog and my dislike of everything Liverpool?!
Could our best teams kr and FH join the SPL or the Tippeligaen, I think not so why are Swansea City and Cardiff City in the English Leagues? I really do not understand this and in years passed there was more, Wrexham, Newport County Aberdare Athletic and Merthyr Tydfil. I know Berwick Rangers are an English team in Scottish League. If this is to go on when Wales has a strong league of there own could Celtic and Rangers (perhaps if they pay their debts) enter into the English Leagues. Just seems strange, why not the FA Cup final between Paris St Germain and Hamburger SV? Silly.
Unlucky Scotland, but the French press are saying that their side were poor today, just doing enough. I wonder where I have heard that before this weekend. Didn't watch the football. The league cup was imposed on clubs in the 1960-1 season to make them play more games mid-week and increase revenue and didn't take off for a long time. Somehow after all these years it still holds little magic for me. Without the non-league teams creating a few surprises and teams playing weakened sides, it has little to recommend it to these eyes.
That final was one of those "who do you dislike the least" who you would want to win....but I must admit was was hoping the Cowie would miss his penalty. I am sure I can start a Gerrard bribery conspiracy theory somewhere on the internet! AK - You should add, why do those other "Welsh" clubs that play in the English pyramid also qualify for Europe for winning a Welsh cup! - mind you we have done that topic to death a few times before..
I see that Greg Clarke has now detailed the fit and proper test carried out by the FL. He told BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek programme: "People turn up and self-certify that they have no criminal convictions. If that looks reasonable and plausible, we will certify them for ownership. This was supposed to be a defence of the tests. It looks more like a condemnation of them.
A debatable point there, AK - the Welsh do not have a strong league of their own. From what I've seen, admittedly only on TV, I'd say the teams are on a par with Scottish Div 2 teams - who in turn are on a par with the mid-range clubs in Blue Square Premier. There's a thought for a mouth-watering fixture, Luton vs Albion Rovers (the original scummers vs the original everybody-hates-us-but-we-don't-care club) I guess it may boil down to the fact that the Welsh & Scottish are still (for the moment) British - if/when that changes, doors may close for them. Or not, if Australia's A League and NRL are anything to go by - Kiwi clubs play successfully in both. And by the way - it's only Rangers who are in the financial mire - Celtic are quite well off and basically debt free.
If you'd ever been to Coatbridge you wouldn't be asking! Shall we say 'the ugly face of social housing'?
OFH - Did you hear all of the interview? Basically he blamed lack of finance at the FL (and comparing that to the FA) for their not be able to adequately vet these shysters. When asked why he did not use the information that the FSA had on one of Pompey's owners (basically they would not allow him to operate in the UK due to convictions for fraud abroad), he replied that the FSA would not pass on the detail and in any case the FL could not risk getting into litigation based on that sort of information, so they would not use it anyway. I'm sorry to say it, but it's about the football creditors rule was overturned and a few clubs went belly up...
Evening all. I see the MT got into some bother. We should not rise to it and certainly not fall to their level! We are better than that. I am happy to say that i have very nearly completed my shirt. I got another bunch of players and here is the pic From top to bottom we have; Loach, Dyche, Sordell, Dickinson, Harry Hornet, Deeney, Bond, Alec chamberlain, Kuszczak, Hogg, McGinn, Hodson, Kightly, Hosworthy, Doyley, Marriappa, Iwelumo, Buaben, Thompson, Eustace, Yeates, Forsyth, Jenkins, Mingoia, Kacaniklic, Trotta and Bennett. It has been great fun to get them all. I just need Tiny now and its complete. Then next season it will be the flag i got at the Spurs game.
babyhornetdan - fair play for getting all those autographs from the saints players. nice to see our players are a little more friendly than the fans
Why don't you like penalties? We don't know whether to like them or not - we never get awarded enough to form an opinion.
Cheers drylunch. Apparently all but 2/3 ignored the fans before the match (i was not there) but all of them stopped afterwards.
