unfortunately a title at the top of a page doesn't have any legal baring what so ever. However, I doubt News Corp would take any action at the moment given to the bad publicity they already have, they wouldn't want more. But in the future moderators may want to screen posts a little better.
I think you are going quite a bit over the top. Sky could not get anything on here removed let alone shut the site down. And saying anything on here is inciting hate is ludicrous.
Anyone here Murdoch is launching a Sun on Sunday newspaper? He may as well have called it 'News of the World' for what it's worth, it's that blatant. As for inciting hatred, from a quick check of wikipedia, I believe the law only applies to ethnic or racial discrimination. If Holocaust denial isn't covered, saying a couple of nasty things about a man on a forum is unlikely to be. It's also not libellous saying these things as we're not presenting our opinions as fact.
If I were more cynical, I might have interpreted that as an implied legal threat. If I were more cynical and had more buttons, I might have taken steps to ensure the threat were retracted or removed.
I was only offering my advice which is that of a practising legal professional. On these pages are references to hanging a person, their country of origin, and accusations of crimes committed by a person without any subsequent proof which may cause offence to that person or damage their image. Published in a public domain that then constitutes libel. Under the defamation act of 1996 the forum owners may be able to plead innocent dissemination, however if the postings were proven to have been known about and not removed by the forum owners they may well then be libel as publishers of the material. At the very least they would be forced to remove the posts and quite likely the thread. However, personally I wouldn't want to antagonise a media mogul or corporation who has just invested a lot of money into a sport openly discussed on here and who who have a reputation for shrewdly and aggressively removing their competition. If you want to hand them the ammunition they need to shut down alternative forums and force us onto forums like those on Planet F1 that are owned by them then carry on posting unmoderated content. No one is talking about removing your right to voice an opinion but a small minority of these opinions could easily allow some one with enough resources to force a closure. I for one enjoy this forum and would not like to see it disappear anytime soon.
While I see your point, Bob, Ofcom say it's perfectly o.k. for Clarkson to say such things live on prime time BBC. On the other hand, there's the famous case of the Twitter 'terrorist' joke trial, where he was convicted for tweeting, sarcastically, that he wanted to blow up an airport. It's hardly consistent. But this is a forum and such places are full of offensive posts; the courts would be very busy if they were to prosecute every instance.
Just found this guide on another forum and thought you guys might find it interesting: Receiving Foreign F1 coverage to your home TV (Credit to Duke @ Overclockers.co.uk for the original post): RTL Channel on Satellite For those that don't want Sky/VM, one option I've found is to watch the German RTL channel with the BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra commentary alongside. RTL is free to air and covers both the qualifying and race in full. It is only free for the SD feed and I think it is £100 a year to watch it in HD. To pick up this channel, you need a satellite dish pointed at 'Astra 19.2E'. I gather you should be able to re-align an existing Sky dish to this sat (although some parts of the UK may need a larger dish), assuming you don't use it for normal Freesat channels, or you can purchase a second dish for it. Even with a different receiver box included, the whole install can be done well within a £100 one off cost. The problem when I tried it was the sync of Radio 5 Live being out by a few seconds and also the commentary team on 5 Live isn't as good as before. RTL tech info - http://www.satmania.com/eng/satchann...elevision.html Dishpointer - http://fr.dishpointer.com/ List of channels on Astra 19.2E - http://www.satmania.com/eng/satchannels/19_2e/astra_1h/ It is possible in some cases to add a second LNB (the receiver on the dish) to an existing dish, but not tried it myself. The second dish was so cheap I just went for that option. You can also get motorised dishes (or make an existing dish motorised), so with a compatible sat box, it will move the dish to the correct sat when you change channel. Very cool but does cost. A motor was £80 odd from a certain electrical part store. ______________ Other channels, such as ORF in Austria (no ads) and HR1 in Croatia are free to view, so the same technique could be applied to them. The practice is also completely legal, as a recent precedent was set by a pub owner in Portsmouth receiving Greek coverage of Premier League Football, who was backed by the European Court of Justice.
for re-aligning your dish there is a great augmented reality app on the app store for iPhones that allows you to track a satellite and align your dish. I used it to sort out my father in laws dish. Worked a treat.
Thanks, DHC and Bobbinz. That first link doesn't seem to work, DHC. What decoder do you need for this? Freeview, FreeSat or can I use my old Sky box?
Honestly I just copied this from another forum, if you read through the other forum from the 'overclockers' link, then you mind find some more info there. Sorry I can't be any more help.
I'm not sure whether to post this here and take the thread in a 'general F1 broadcast media' direction or make a new thread... James Allen and Joe's Award (a bit like the Whore Presents site) both blogged about the Tata deal this week, with the general consensus being that, in the future, F1 will be delivered direct from FOM to the consumer, with no BBC or Sky in between. Joe'S speculates that the standard feed (delivered by a single editing HQ instead of from each circuit) would be available free on Formula1.com (to satisfy sponsors), much as live timing is now, and that additional information services (maybe feeding an analysis app), camera feeds (who knows, maybe full team radio feeds, too), replay feeds etc. would be available on a pay-per-view basis. Sounds like a bright future to me. What do you lot think? What additional services would you like to see if you were to pay for them?
Wow that would be really good news if it happened. I also like the idea of paying for extra apps to customise your own coverage. Any idea if this is likely to happen and if so when?
Gutted that Sky aren;t showing live NASCAR. Anyone know where the Daytona 500 can be watched in the UK?
Well it's not imminent, that's for sure. Hopefully they'll start winding up towards it while the Sky/BBC contract is ongoing. I think tribo's link shows it.
It's the extras I'm looking forward to, that and the 3D upscaling of my new TV, although seeing those stepped noses jump out of the screen at me may have me turning it off.
Did anyone see this recently? Could this mean that in the not too distant future, F1 won't need TV stations like Sky because they could broadcast the feed themselves?
Any Virgin TV customers here with the sky sports package. I see alot of sky customers are watching the F1 channel already but I can't. Is it because I am on virgin or is there something wrong with my subscription?
Yes I do, people on SKY are watching trailers on the channel now. I don't if this applies to Virgin or not though.
