Can they afford them though, or even one of them?

It's inevitable that an 'unfashionable' team sitting in 8th position at this late stage of the season is going to attract unwanted attention.

Disappointing that Surman hasn't yet been tied down to a new improved contract is my initial take on it. Maybe best to address this sooner, rather than later, PL & co <ok>

    Idle paper talk imo

Cant see either of them being "high profile" enough for the Geordies.

I wouldn't be too concerned if this were true TBH. Surman has flashes of brilliance and then goes missing for long periods. He is also prone to giving the ball away easily IMO. Wouldn't want R Martin to leave but everyone has their price and I would trust PL's judgement if either of them left us.

Russell Martin can play as CB and RB? Only CB tbh!

He wasn't first choice RB at the start and got his chance at CB. Took it with both hands of course. Since the move bact to RB he has looked to struggle with that position where he was outstanding last year, albeit against Championship wide men.
I think he is a decent CB. Puyol started at FB for Barcelona so it can be done at the highest level. I think he is a better defender than Ayala, at the moment, and like his no nonsense kick it out of the ground if necessary.
