    I am starving. Daughter left Gloucester at 5.00am with children, still not arrived. Dinner was ready at 6.30pm when I had a text to say that she was stuck in a nightmare round Paris. It is a good 3-3.5hours journey from there, so I dread to think what state they will be in.<yikes>

    Think I had better have something red from a bottle to keep me going.:emoticon-0103-cool:

    yeah, typical scummer, picked on an easy subject. I could have gone through on "Italian war heroes" as a subject more easily - dirty cheating filth

    I suppose it really depends on what type of job you're applying for - is it within your chosen profession or is it a stop-gap type of position purely to get you an income?

    It can be hard to know exactly what employers are looking for, but, outside of the skill set you possess, you really need some added value to make yourself a more attractive proposition. Some generic pointers:
    1. Know the employer - the business they are in, the market and where you think they stand in it, the structure of the organisation - being able to show some knowledge of that will at least give them more food for thought;
    2. Know yourself - you no doubt have some if not all of the particular skills required for the position, but what else have you got that may be useful? Volunteer work, community work, any leadership experience - even if not work related, a track record of team membership - anything at all like that that can be woven into an answer can also give food for thought;
    3. A commitment to ongoing learning - an indication that you have the ability and commitment to improving yourself is a powerful tool, even if the improvement is not work-related;
    4. At the risk of sounding like an old fuddy duddy - acceptable appearance and attitude at an interview are two things often forgotten - I've lost track of the number of people who have shot themselves in the foot by not considering them.

    Have had a couple too many rums to get the brain cells operating, cant think of anything else - it is Friday night after all. :)

    Thanks! It's actually a graduate job as I'm going to be let loose on the big wide world soon, so I guess that falls under chosen profession :)
    Some sound advice there though

    You may notice that it is very late for me, but I needed time for the dinner to go down.

    A quick cup of Horlicks please if it is available, then off to the land of nod.

    Morning all from a VERY foggy island which means a third day of chaos at the airport and it looks like this is the thickest fog of the 3 days - just glad it was last weekend the boys and I were travelling. Going shopping for a new bicycle later and getting the glasses I need for work sorted. If I didn't need a special prism in my everyday glasses, I'd get bifocals which would certainly be cheaper. Going to see the Muppet Movie with youngest this afternoon - as he doesn't go to sports events I try and work out what to take him to so I'm not favouring his brother who does. Most things I suggest are usually met with a no but not this one. :)

    Had an idea about fixture congestion which is taken from ice hockey - if 2 teams from the same division are drawn against each other in a cup and have yet to play that league fixture, the cup game doubles up. Taking an example from the Championship, one of the Palace v Cardiff semi-final games could have doubled up. If it was the 2nd leg, then the league result would have been the one at 90 minutes. I can think of various pros and cons to this and details that would have to be sorted out e.g which tv channels, if it's an FA Cup game between 2 FL sides, how many subs, etc.
