When I was married, twice, working, for years and younger, I was once, weekends were a mixed blessing.
In my youth they were for recovering from a Friday night, preparing for a Saturday night and looking forward to my mums Sunday dinner.

My 20's and early 30's it was overtime, time and a half Saturday morning then double time Sunday morning.

I then moved on to a more successful time, moved into management then senior management and weekends became a time to prepare for next weeks meetings, fit in shopping trips, visits for dinner with friends and trying to recharge batteries.

Now, wives long gone, living in my one bedroom flat, big houses long gone, bank balance always on the nearly empty level and living on pensions with Osca dragging me out early morning. Weekends are for sport followed by sport then more sport.

I will go out this morning and get myself my food to ensure my meals are special and a treat, my weekend bonus, back home with something for Osca, he enjoys weekends, then on home days it would be off to the SoL, away days its soccer Saturday on TV, laptop on and radio in ear to listen to Sunderland. Then straight to Sky for Man City game and then football first for our game.

Sunday its Sunday Supplement, goals on Sunday, Gooners Spurs then Carling Cup.

Now all you young bucks, working your arse off to succeed in life, just think on, I had success, wealth and material things.

I now have time and happiness.

Work hard and make the most of life but if you can, get the balance right, it cost me two marriages and a lot of heartache to learn that success and wealth help in life but are by no means all that life is about.

There ends my sermon, I blame lack of sleep.

Well I will be at work from 7am to7pm, both Saturday and Sunday, and counting my blessings that Sunderland are playing away so I don't have to put any holidays in for the match...

There I am sitting in comfort in front of the TV sipping my beer in bliss, the wife bringing my bacon butty, bliss, waiting for final score with sunderland leading, bliss.
Then one of my sons comes round, "dad can I have.............
If only it was possible to put them back from whence they came!!

I fear your bacon butty may enter through a unexpected hole if you try
