Headline pretty much says it all. Its not even the lack of any Norwich players - certainly Ruddy should be in there and possibly Holt; but the sheer lack of anything different. I thought this was supposed to be an inexperienced, experimental squad in order to blood some youngsters and fringe players? Its basically the same players that get selected every single time! Absolutely rubbish squad selection in my opinion and I doubt I shall be watching England under Pearce.
Agree 100%! I'm astonished by Pearce's lack of imagination! This was his chance to make a difference and, maybe, stake a claim should 'Arry decide to stay with Spurtz!
Frazier cambell says it all really, how can a player who's been out for 18 months and scores a couple of goals waltz his way into the squad, yet players who have been performing all season ie ruddy, n dyer, holt and graham etc don't even get a look in. It's an absalute joke, and can't give 2 hoots how we do until players who deserve recognition get it.
how has walcott got in? how has downing got in? how has green got in? how has carson got in? how has campbell got in? how has johnson got in? there are others but none of these players are playing either regularly or well and i find it a disgrace that players like ruddy, oxlade-chamberlain, holt, dyer, caulker, and any number of other players who could and should be involved and deserve to play can't get in ahead of some of the absolute crap that has been selected. i'm quite angry about it. i was excited by what pearce had said in the lead up that he'd use the friendly to have a look at some new players and all he's done is bring in a half fit fraizer campbell! disgraceful
that's it, i can't be arsed watching england. green and carson picked over Ruddy - absolute disgrace one is in the championship and got sent off the other night, and carson is in bulgaria or somewhere i heard trevor brooking went to CR on sat - if he was there to see ruddy, even if he played he wouldn't have got in the squad. poor
Same old same old. What does Ruddy have to do to get a look in? Why has he picked 3 RB's? Cleverley has been out for months (mind you he plays for Man U), still same old failed internationals. They have missed possibly their best opportunity to see what other players can do have they've blown it. At least one thing is certain, don't give Pearce the job.
"Alex is playing extremely well for the Under-21s and if we elevated him into the senior squad and he played for 10 minutes then I can't see what the footballing education will be." What utter drivel. The boy is built like a middleweight boxer, has far more nous than Walcott will ever have and scores goals after he's gone past his full back. Why would you only play him for 10 minutes? He can last 90 for christs sake. I opted for Pearce for the new manager but safety first has been his option. We aren't going to win Euro12 so take some of them along, play them and give them the experience they always complain is the reason they can't pick them in the first place.
We should be using this friendly and euro 2012 as stepping stones in our build up for the world cup, give youngsters and future stars and squad players a go cause we carry on playing these has beens then were not going to get anywhere, yet the FA go on about how there concerned about the future quality in youngsters!
I was all up for Pierce as manager. Not any more! Like you guys I am dissapionted in his squad. No idea how Carson got in. Gerrad has been out for ages not played a great deal for liverpool. I would to have liked to seen more yonger players in the squad too. I personally like micha richards so thats about the only player im glad is in!
So out of that squad to me it has to be . . . . doesn't it? Hart Richards Smalling Jones Baines Young Parker Gerrard Welbeck Rooney Sturridge
As much as I agree that the squad is the same old **** with a couple of newish faces, I have come to accept that this is always going to be the case. As much as Holt probably deserves a chance, ultimately his age is against him. Ruddy should of got in for sure, and probably Nathan Dyer but unfortunately its not going to happen anytime soon. One thing is for sure, if Man Utd, Arsenal, or any other top side buy either in the summer, they'll be picked for England quicker than a fly changes direction.
Sad thing is its not a suprise at all. With the exception of Cleverly and Campbell most of us could have named that as the squad he was going to pick
Shocking to not include Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ruddy, I expected these above all other possibilities Green and Carson are a JOKE Ruddy has proved himself countless times in the PL OC is one of the few positive elements at Arsenal, he is exciting to watch and has plenty of pace. Good to see that the dinosaurs, Ferdinand and Lampard, have been culled, about time!
Walcott is a one trick pony. Push the ball past a player and beat him for speed. if he has to think, he gets it wrong. The 'Ox', knows how to beat players by dribbling. Knows when to think and when to be instinctive, and looks more difficult to knock off the ball. In short, Walcott = fast, can be tricky. The 'Ox' = has a footballing brain and knows how and when to use it. As for the others. Like has been already said, despite what Peearce said, it is going to be hard to summon up the interest to watch England.
I think disappointed but not at all surprised sums it up to most of us. I posted on another thread yesterday basically saying that despite the "new and exciting" squad which was going to be picked I doubted whether any new and deserving players would get a shot and lo and behold its pretty much the same closed shop. The goalkeeping selections are utterly laughable although unless Joe Hart gets shot between now and the Euro's a place on the bench is the best anyone else can hope for.
good post on the matter and pretty much sums up how i felt when i heard the announcement... http://www.sabotagetimes.com/footba...s-ox-and-norwichs-holt-in-the-england-squad/?
Agree the squad is bad, but Ruddy or Holt should be in it? Not sure I can agree with that. Holt has no chance, and Hart and Stockdale (Sorry) are better than Ruddy.
There are certain players that, should they ever be called up, will make me abandon England and support one of the other Home Nations. Grant Holt is one of them. For a list of the others, don't hesitate to ask.
simply don't agree DM. holt has been one of the most inform strikers in the premier league and offers something totally different to the others selected. as for ruddy, he has played every premier league game this season - stockdale has played pretty poorly for both ipswich and fulham and has lost his place in the team. green has had a poor season while carson has never impressed. if they aren't going to try different players in games like this what's the point in having the games? and where the hell is chamberlain?! too early? what absolute nonsense...
so you're happy for players like downing and walcott to get called up when they have been awful instead of say nathan dyer and grant holt who have been playing out of their skin?
