Just seen this from the club http://www.hullcityafc.net/page/NewsDetail/0,,10338~2619590,00.html Shame Okocha didn't make the shortlist as that would definitely have been my vote. Being the nostalgic sole that I am if I could be arsed to vote it'd probably be for Whitmore (and Goodison) as their signing was so exciting and different at the time, when the nearest we got to an international footballer was Alan Fettis. Not that I can be arsed to vote.
I'm not having a go, you have to sign up the clubs junk email account, so Hudgell can bombard you with offers of securing you compo that you're not entitled to. It will be Ash, it couldn't really be anyone else.
I know France was one of the four to play in every division, and I did quite like him being in the squad, but how on earth has he made the list for best signing of the last 20 years ahead of someone like Burgess who was a vital part of the first promotion, or Price and Green who kept him out of the team in the first two promotions.
It depends on who votes. I can imagine there'll be a fair few that want to vote for likes of Geovanni and Koren ahead of Ash, for obvious (and stupid) reasons.
I'm probably reading too much into this but there's something in the wording about it being 'best signing' rather than 'best player' or 'favourite player' (then I would have picked Ash) - that makes me think more about what the player was like when we actually signed them rather than what they did for us - which is no doubt why Rocastle made the list. Is the poll about who turned out to be the best / most influential player for us or who caused the most socks to be blown off at time of signing?
The question is 'Who has been our best signing in the last 20 years?' and that was Ash, it can't really be anyone else. There were more exciting signings, there were players who scored more goals, there were more talented players, but the single best signing we made in the last twenty years can't be anyone but Ash.
