I thought it was 11 sets of tyres for the weekend: 2 prime + 1 option for P1 and P2 1 prime + 1 option for P3 3 prime + 3 option for qual and race I might be mistaken though.
My understanding is thus: Tyre allocation is reduced to 11 rather than 14 sets of dry-weather tyres which are available to each driver per complete race weekend. Drivers receive three sets (two prime, one option) to use in P1 and P2 and must return one set after each session. A further eight sets will then be made available for the rest of the weekend, although one set of each specification must be returned prior to qualifying. Any driver failing to use both specifications of dry-weather tyres during a dry race will be excluded from the results. And if a dry race is suspended and can’t be restarted, any driver who has failed to use both specifications, will have 30 seconds added to his/her race time. When one considers the rate at which these tyres are being eaten up, it is very likely to restrict a team's running even further, with the result that any team lagging behind others (in development) is likely to find it even more difficult to get back on terms with those who start the season in better shape. At present, this is very good news for Red Bull and Ferrari in particular, whilst the most obvious 'victim' of the new tyres and their reduced availability is surely McLaren.
hopefully we can all chat on here when the events start, but Unfortunatly Ive just moved house and dont have broadband yet =/
During Quali and the race itself, does anyone fancy a go at doing a text commentary? The BBC is terrible and slow, and the only other one I've found is Autosport. It'd be nice to see some more opinions as the race unfolds.
Just thought of this: I'm hoping this forum will be able to keep the good banter going when the season starts rather than all threads becoming a 'my favourite driver is best" thread, because we've all mostly got to know each other in the close season, we can keep the good naturedness all season and beyond!
Same here. A few more users would be nice, but I do like how it is at the moment. When the season starts I think a few users who are on here for the football boards might drift across.
Well my driver is the best so that's that argument cleared up for the season. I have faith in the members here to produce some good banter through the season. Looking forward to it.
Just out of interest who is your favourite driver? I think you said it on your first post, but I can't find it.
I'm not entirely sure, I'm a McLaren lad and I support the Brits so thats Button, Hamilton and di Resta. Also like kobi and have a soft spot for lotus, even if they are a bit fake lotus Who's my favourite out of them... I'd probably say Hamilton because of his driving style. On a side note I don't actually dislike any drivers, Alonso is a bit of a panto bady for me, but in the end I don't dislike him. I just find it helps add interest to battles.
That's good. I'm a Vettel fan, you're Hamilton (mostly) and El Bando is Alonso, so we've got a good spread at Mod level. I see Alonso in the same way as you, I don't like him but he's a good character to have on the grid. I think the best example of his panto villainy was his evil laugh when he won in Korea. I was gutted about Seb's engine failure but still thought that was brilliant.
My reply just deleted itself Its good to have a mix of mods, it (hopefully) stops people moaning about mod favouritism. I'm hoping Ferrari and Red bull take points off each other at the start until McLaren can challenge for wins. I may have to settle for little victories this year though, the WDC and WCC seem unlikely at the moment
Haha, I got accused of favouritism a few times, part of the reason I jacked it in, 2 or 3 guys doing it you don't have to worry about that. 7days to go nearly, can't wait!
Panto villian? lol, yer im the alonso representative but most of those Alonso fanboys tick me off. Just if anybody wants to know my GP support history before starting an argument with me (im well travelled): Driver Team dislike 1992 Mansell Williams Mclaren & Ferrari 1993-6 Hill Williams Mclaren, Ferrari & Benetton 1997 Hill Arrows Mclaren & Ferrari 1998-9 Hill Jordan Mclaren & Ferrari 2000 Button Williams Mclaren & Ferrari 2002 Button Benneton/Renault Ferrari 2003-6 Alonso Renault Ferrari 2007 Alonso Renault nobody really 2008-9 Alonso Renault Mclaren 2010 Alonso Renault Mclaren I also had a soft spot for minardi the whole time
