Liam Lawrence quoted on BBC. It would be a big surprise if it wasn't. especially the amount he and a few others are earning!
Taking away the football, if the company I worked for went into adminstration and I wasn't being paid, I'm sure it would start to affect me, so I'm not surprised really. As a fan you've just got to hope the players can be professional about it and keep their game-face on. Can't he get the scan done on the NHS?? If a Sunday league player did himself an injury, he's be straight off up the nearest A&E, don't see why it's any different for pro's. And I'm sure he's not short of a few bob, can't he pay for it himself? I seem to remember a certain Mr Lundekvam paying for the pitch to be relaid for his own testimonial a few years back.
So around 30 "ordinary" staff (excluding Lampitt and other directors) will get laid off. Thats when reality really hits home about PFC's situation as it did at Saints when so many long serving staff who were on "normal" wages got the boot because of the failure of executives... and the GREED of professonal footballers. I suspect one month of Liam Lawrence's wages would pay for a couple of the ticket office staff for a year. Be interesting to see if any of the senior PFC players volunteer a pay cut/deferral. Kelvin Davis led by example at Saints during our dark times, why is it that I just can't see Lawrence or Kitson doing the same. I maybe doing them an injustice but get the feeling the first thing they will do is call their agent to try to get out of the club.
Facts from tonight: No new players No new season tickets No parachute payments £50m debt? Doesn't look good!
Quite right, he's reputedly on £25k a week, which is probably more than what the ticket office staff earn in a year. Let's face it, these guys aren't exactly living hand-to-mouth, they should be able to survive for a few weeks without getting paid and be professional.
To be fair, most of that is probably owed to Chanrai and Gayadamak. I totally agree with what you're saying about our player's salaries. I find it appalling that ordinary staff members are being made redundant while the players are getting paid so much. In this economy, chances are they won't find it easy to find other employment. While at the end of their contracts, the players could find another club easily. Saying that David James last time did take a pay cut, but he was awesome. And Kate, professional footballers using the NHS?! Next you'll be suggesting they send their kids to state schools!
Recent senior execs at PFC must shoulder some of the blame for the players salaries. Players (through their agents) will always seek the highest figure they can get but the club,s can always say no. Friends of mine in Suffolk, 30yrs Ipswich supporters & fairly close to the club, tell me that Ipswich were shocked at the wages PFC were offering to Norris & made it plain to the player, through his agent, there is no way we can pay that - GOODBYE!
****s sake leave this **** alone no Portsmouth means no rivals no Portsmouth means no extra tv revenue or coverage no Portsmouth means who do we care who is below us. Sort it out and somebody please save the Skates. Yes I am saying this.
At least they reckon Chanrai will lose some of his money. Apparently he reckons a 17 million debt is secured in the stadium, but the administrator says that as the stadium is not worth anything near 17 million he will have to accept less. Probably only get a tenner back then
Birch, Pompey's administrator, says that present staff sackings and other cost cuttings, will just about enable them to finish season (so no advantage gained by us if they went out of business, damn) but they have to find a buyer quickly after that. He's been talking to Pompey fan groups as well...the only good news they have had recently is getting rid of Adronikou.
Everyone is clearly entitled to their opinions - that is what this forum is for. But you continually use foul and abusive language and it is not required not wanted. You started a thread yesterday and did exactly the same... Air your views - YES Swear your head off - NO Please be a little more respectful of your fellow posters...
There is a option button you can press for swearing and non swearing check it out its a clever feature
Im quite aware of that and i do that - but it is still not necessary and even tho it is starred out - it is still obvious in content. Is your choice as it is clearly a feature on here to be allowed...but i dont think youre doing yourself any favours with how it comes across... I seriously doubt i am the only one who finds it uncessary...
I've blocked out swearing so I'm not offended, but it does come over as aggressive when it's not even needed.
Fran - I am with you on this - I dont get offended by bad language but I do find it aggressive and completely unecessary...
It wouldn't hurt for footballers to learn a little humility. They are rather detached from the real world and some of the real issues presented within it.
I am sorry if swearing offends you I will try and keep it to a minimum in future I must of had a bad day yesterday as I don't normally use bad language on this forum. Sorry
See what happens when you appoint a 'real' administrator......he's started shipping players out & cutting costs! Who'd have thought.....
