Wow semi-final at Anfield, then if we beat Ajax, we get to play a final at that mecca of football grounds, Selhurst Park!!!! How did Selhurst Park get picked for a European football final?
My brother once played a game at Selhurst Park. He met the legendary Bruce Dyer as well!! That is a bit of a strange ground though to be honest. Maybe it's the only free ground in the capital (play the game in the capital as it's neutral and there is good travel links for both finalists)
If you think about it does make a bit of sense. Crystal Palace are well known for producing and giving young players game time. Makes a bit more sense when you look at it like that! I'm not too far from Selhurst Park so if we were to get through to the final, i'm gonna try and get up there and watch the final!
You're stretching the truth a little there when you say that Selhurst Park has good travel links. They are probably one of the poorest of all of the grounds in London
Lime St to London Euston, underground to London Victoria,London Victoria to Selhurst Park. Its easy enough to get there. Its just that it costs a fortune and takes about 5hrs in total
Selhurst Park does have good transport links, there are like 3 trains stations within a 10 minute walk of the ground. Well Selhurst and Thornton Heath are a 10 minute walk, East Croydon is 10 minutes on the bus.
The transport links are decent. I've been to Selhurst Park before and there is a train station a few minutes away. Can't remember what it was called though...
Thorton Heath, Selhurst and Norwood Junction are all within 5-10 minutes of the stadium. Can't remember which one is closest.
Used to go past Selhurst Park whenever I got dragged to Croydon when I was young. First time I saw Liverpool play was against Wimbledon, which happened to be Michael Owen's debut.
this makes zero sense to me. surely they ought to figure out who is actually in the final before picking a location. inter v marseille lfc v ajax. there could be a case for monaco, for genoa, or for somewhere in germany but SELHURST... you must have made it up... source please.. I can't find anyhting o ntheir offical website so.....
Inter and Marseille are playing their semi-final at Brentford apparently. Perhaps they are staying over here for the duration of the tournament. Went looking for a link and found this: http://www.nesn.com/2012/02/liverpool-hosts-ajax-in-semifinal-of-nextgen-series-at-anfield-on-march-14.html Mentions the final being played at Selhurst Park.
thanks for that link... it makes no bloody sense to me at all. you get sides from round europe to play each other home and away... decide to have one leg qf etc then decide form some reason that all semis are in england over a few days? its mad.... i mean lfc get to play at anfield with a 10k crowd if lucky... then the other semi finalists get zero crowd and a bad pitch then we go to palace????? sounds strange as hell but there's the link! If lfc don't win it ajax really will be the top side.
