Someone summed up Andy Carroll and Liverpool perfectly on the United board by stating "Biggest panic buy ever"
The biggest panic buy ever has to be when Ferguson signed Berbatov. He ambushed him when he was just about to sign for City.He met him at the airport and more or less kidnapped him. Spurs and City were the ones laughing......I reckon they plotted it between them,Spurs told City to put in a fake large bid,and they knew only too well that stupid old **** would get annoyed and put in a bigger one.City didn't sign a player they had no intention of signing....and Spurs made a ã22 million profit on a bolshy bulgarian than can't run.
I think you will find that wrong in a few months time, he came on against United and had a chance on target in a couple of minutes, without even really trying as we were whuppin you anyways
Agree with Berba, definately a panic buy. add to that also that a few players turned United down after Ronaldo left aswell that made the Berba buy so panic stricken Veron is the biggest flop in British footballing history
I think he is definatly the man for you, because ever since he came back, you have started playing good football again Well Done Kenny and the king lives on
There is a long list.Man United fans were expecting Ribery,Benzema and Villa. They not only ended up with a Liverpool reject on a free......They ended up with an injury prone Liverpool reject on a free.
That's a quality plastic effort! You do realise Berbatov signed for us one year before Ronaldo left right?! And we'd been tracking him for three months beforehand. That's a long time to panic when you're the reigning European champions... As for Veron, nice bit of bias there Obviously much worse than ã30 million for Shevchenko, who was not only released on a free three seasons later, but also led to Mourinho resigning and Chelsea going three seasons without a PL title.
That was Liverpool's problem way before Dalglish joined them. Play like giants against Chelsea, United and Real Madrid, play like donkeys against West Ham, Blackpool and Stoke. The one thing Dalglish needs to do if Liverpool are to succeed is to end the consistent trend of underperforming against lower ranked teams. Which thus far seems to be the one thing he's been unable to do. Stoke didn't get a kick, can't argue with the rest of the assessment but you are ignoring a win against Wolves.
He wasn't as big a' panic buy as you'd think. Carroll was our number #1 target in the summer but when Torres handed in a transfer request we knew we had to act there and then as we needed a replacement. we then struck a deal with Chelsea for them to sign Torres for the amount Carroll would cost us + ã15m. this is why we didn't hesitate on upping our bid after Newcastle rejected our initial bid of ã30m. Was it a lot of money? yes, yes it was Was it a panic - to a certain degree
I was referring to Stoke in the 2008/09 season. You did the double over United and Chelsea, and took two points off Arsenal. Then dropped four points to Stoke and ended up four points behind us. IIRC, the second draw with Stoke was after Rafa's "Facts" speech and was the last time you topped the table that season. You did get a good away win against Wolves, which is more that we've done this season, but it was on the back of a home draw at Everton. If you want to win the league you need to be taking three points off teams outside the top 6 at least two thirds of the time. Since Kenny came back you have beaten Stoke, Fulham and Wolves, but lost to Blackpool and West Ham and drawn with Everton and Wigan, so there's still improvement that needs to be made there.
Always need to improve however Blackpool was very early after Kenny took over and hadn't had chance to get into the players minds at that point. I would only say we played badly aginst West Ham and 2nd 1/2 against Wigan. Our overall performances are a lot better under Kenny even against smaller teams.
You not only have to beat teams below 6th.You also have to beat teams in the top 6 AWAY from home. Now tell me how many teams in the top 6 have Man United beaten away from home.......Simple question and answer.....I'll tell you........None. Chelsea L 2-1. Man City D 0-0. Spurs. D 0-0. Liverpool L 3-1. They have to play Arsenal at the Emirates. Now is this form deserving of would be champions. Then again 4 away wins all season is rather pathetic.
You may well be right - haven't been following 'pool all that closely. Although as always, it's the result that matters. If Dalglish can turn performances into results, then he'll be the right man for you. Erm, no you don't. In the 2008/09 season Utd lost away to Liverpool and Arsenal and drew away to Everton, Aston Villa and Chelsea. We also lost away to Fulham and drew away to Spurs. So we didn't beat a single one of the teams in the top eight AWAY from home. And we were still champions, four points clear of Liverpool. Hate to break it to you, but this is a genuine discussion, not a random "whinge about United" thread. If you don't have anything intelligent to say...
Swarbs. Whats your excuse about the just 4 away wins. Howard Webb wasn't allowed to ref the others. Personally I reckon a team that throws away a 2 goal lead against West Brom, doesn't deserve to be Champions.
Fergie signed him due to the fact he was renowned worldwide for being a top drawer midfielder. Kenny Dalglish signed Andy Carroll due to half a season in the top flight and due to the fact he had ã50m burning a hole in his pocket. Plus, you cannot for a single moment compare the transfer of Dimitar Berbatov with Andy Carroll. You do know that Berbatov was a fan favourite at Tottenham for more than half a season, right? Whilst they were in the top flight too, he was immense at spurs. Last season Andy Carroll was valued at ã1m. Make sure you got that. ONE MILLION POUNDS. Liverpool paid ã35m. Biggest. Panic. Buy. Ever. The moment you all take your heads out of the arse of the ginger one who jumps ship at the first sign of trouble, you'll realise this.
That we don't deserve to be champions this season.. I don't think there's any disputing that, nor any chance we could actually get it. Personally I think the fact Man Utd have been winning it over the last 20 years has damaged how English football is seen. Your style of play isn't brilliant, even at it's best and whilst not as bad as Stoke there is no lack of controversy surrounding your club on the pitch. None of the EPL teams have played well this season, that is something that has got to change - the top teams have dropped in quality whilst the lower teams have stepped up... if King Kenny wants to get us back to the top then he'll need time and motivation - because it's going to take a steady strategic plan to get us back up there.
I kind of agree that none of the EPL teams have played very well this season especially Man Utd. But that just goes to show how bad all the other EPL teams are at the moment. However have to disagree about Utd's style of play. While Utd do not play like Barcelona or even Arsenal, they do play good football but can mix it up when required. Cannot see a problem with that. With regard to controversy. Yes there is often controversy some of which is created by Utd and deserved. But a great deal is also blown up by the media and Utd haters.
I might of guessed this would end up a United vs Liverpool. You Mancs are like mosquitos on this board! To summarise my opinions, yes Carrol is overpriced, but he will be good for us, and he will proove his value as the price of English players will inflate as the new regs come in, and the lack of English talent is laid bare. And yes Carrick is average, not crap, but not great. As per the article, Kenny is the only man atm to get the players going. Realisticaly we need investment before we can look at any form of glory.
