If I had to choose it would be Rickie as he has been consistently good through the whole season. Not only for his goals but his all round contribution. Nice to Whittingham receive a nomination, he is very adept and he is Cardiff's 'engine room'.
It's interesting that despite Adam having had a few poor games he still gets the nomination. I would still plump for Rickie though. Been immense this season!
Most improved for me..hmmm..not Lambert, altough he has improved, he was always very good. I'm gonna say...Hammond and he's not even getting in the starting 11!
Hmm, I wouldn't be so sure about that. Both have made great contributions to the team, and impacts upon the Championship. However, whilst I think everyone would agree that Adam is a Premier League in waiting, Rickie is a League One/Two player who has astounded everybody by his undoubted ability to play in the Championship, and be the best there is. I don't think it's cut and dried. Saying that, I expect Whittingham will end up winning it anyway.
these things really bug me, player of the year? the season is just over half way gone, could it not wait until april when all the facts are in?
I would give it to Rickie out of the 2 Saints players, but I think Whittingham will win it, been immense for Cardiff this year.
Simple. He is now a more complete player - goals ain't just what he does. Edit: Sorry Chilco, I see someone has already made the point. Still valid though! He is one of the essentials.
I think Rickie has always had a lot more to his game than being "simply" a goalscorer. maybe the other dimensions to his all-round play have become more apparent to Saints fans this season because we have more players getting goals in numbers, Guly and Lallana in double figures, Connolly, and now of course Sharp and Chung as well. The thing is though, do managers of other teams who will vote for this award see Rickie as an all-round genius or just as a target man? Personally, as long as one of Rickie or Adam wins it I'll be happy.
When does the winner get announced? Hopefully at the end of the season, don't want any player of the year curse voodoo going on! Unless of course Whittingham wins it, which I recon he probably will.
so whats it for? rickie and lallana were in a dif league than the other dude for half a year- so its not 2011, 2012 has just started- nice to be nominated though
