I assumed this would be the age old Grant Holt v Rickie Lambert argument. Imagine my surprise when I read the actual content. My turn next, Noddy or Enid Blyton?
Sorry off subject but how good does that sound?! You'd have been told to lay off the glue if you'd suggested that in August.
Holt has been carrying Lambert all this time and you only just opened my eyes to it. Anyone remember Holts flick on for Cody's goal vs Colchester? Probably his finest hour.
Please please please gentlemen. Let's not ruin a very good thread by resorting to name calling <shakeshead>
Yes we do and that's what makes a good debate. I agree Holt's goals have been a major part of our consecutive promotions, but there are 9 other outfield players on the pitch making their contrbution and passing the ball to him to score. Also, look how Lambert changed the formation in the 2nd half (but not the players) to beat Swansea a couple of weeks ago!!
Wish that were true as I could do with losing 5 years - 1950 was the first time I was taken to Carrow Road by my Grandad. And before you say it Dave it was Carrow Road and not the Nest!!!
Personally, I would rather have McNally (the ability to follow financial prudence, find a great manager, and pull off stunning transfers) There are always other "managerial gems" out there, but in McNally we trust to when necessary replace PL with the next messiah. PL's most valued work has already been done, set in stone, is financial stability, a squad bursting at the seams with youth and pace (23yr is average age, best in the Premier League), and has instilled in the squad a sense of loyalty, never-give-up attitude, and most desired, a not-for-granted attitude with his rotation policy). Our legacy as a solid Premier League/Championship leader side has been assured for the next 3 years at least, and we can look forward to being able to attract top young talent from the lower divisions, even if it without Lambert. McNally = God, who foresaw disaster and implemented his successful strategy Lambert = Messiah who saved us from the abyss of League 1, returning us to the top table Holt = Disciple who spreads the gospel to the far reaches of our country
I wouldn't say his work "is done". No question about how well he's done bringing us back from the abyss but I suspect if he left now, it could be disastrous. That attitude, loyalty and desire etc that he's instilled needs constant managing and maintaining. I'd hope that whoever decided to step into his big shoes would be capable of doing the same.
Reading through the whole thread my mind turned to Formula 1. Now I'm not talking about multi-million pound buzz boxes of electronic wizardry that hurtle round our TV screens for the attempted entertainment of bored bankers on firm's jollies but the sport that gave us Clark,Hill,Moss,Brabham and Surtees. In those days a modern sports saloon would have been up with the pack. When Lotus burst on the scene in the early 60's Colin Chapman pretty much re-wrote the rules and they went on to dominate the sport until it degenerated into the money driven corporate farce we see today. But the point is this: It took Lotus to build the car,Cosworth to develop the engine and Clark or Hill to drive it.Had you removed any one of those Lotus's dominance in the sport would not have happened. So it is with the current team,it's an amalgam that through a combination of luck and skill has brought the results we see today, and let us not doubt you need both, you could even put the 1-7 in that latter category. All I know is that I have never enjoyed a season as much and that won't alter if we lose 1-7 on Sunday.
Wow CT - you've put into words something that I was trying to think of and the analogy is brilliant. We have in DM, PL and GH a formidable TEAM, which requires ALL 3 to be part of NCFC's transformation over the last 30 months or so. We souldn't be where we are today without all 3 'singing off the same hymn sheet' and let's not forget us - THE FANS who contribute to our team's success. The way in which we follow our beloved team to all of the away games in our droves and bring some much needed colour to the TV pictures on MOTD (other than the inevitable red/white or blue/white), it was even noticed by Motty at Stamford Bridge if my memory serves me correctly!!!!
we could put it this way: would the club still be able to continue its upward mobility without; holt? yes lambert? possible but unlikely mcnally? i very much doubt it
How much more upward mobility do you lot think there is out there? At least earlier in the season we could point to Stoke and Sunderland.Possibly the Magpies? Then it's Scousers and Chelski. In the immortal words of John McEnroe....
