Living in Belfast - Northern Ireland I don't make it to a great deal of matches. But I have for months been planning to go over on the Portsmouth weekend for the match with some friends and family for my 21st Birthday. On the brink of starting to book flights and accommodation, it seems to me that the opportunity to buy tickets will be very scarce. The new article includes these parameters:

    • From 10am on Sunday 4th March, a one week window of sale will be opened up for 2011/12 Season Ticket Holders to purchase one additional ticket for Portsmouth when buying for Doncaster.

    • From 10am on Sunday 11th March, remaining tickets for the Portsmouth game will be available to supporters on our database only when purchasing for Doncaster

    • Due to the nature of this fixture, please note that season ticket moves will NOT be available for this game. Tickets purchased for both matches will be non transferable. No duplicates / reprints on Season Ticket or Match tickets will be issued.

    • Tickets will NOT be available to purchase online or from our WestQuay store for the Portsmouth fixture.

What is my best way to ensure my birthday trip isn't thrown into jeopardy?

It seems you have to buy Doncaster tickets as well. Are you prepared to do that?

    Really hope I can go.

Haven't been to a Pompey game since our 2-1 win in 2004!

I'd probably be prepared to do that yea. Not sure about the rest of my entourage though.

I think giving season ticket holders the opportunity to get another ticket is a little bit out of order. So someone who is just mates with a season ticket holder, has never been to a game before and just fancies this one is able to ask their mate and get a ticket before other people who are on the database and regularly attend games are? Surely not only is that quite unfair, but possibly pose a bit of a security risk?

Take the number of season ticket holders, half that and add it on if they all get an extra ticket, then not to mention people wh have bought those final 10 packages...Tickets will be quite scarce I imagine.

It's always difficult for these types of games, I remember the allocation for the Pompey cup game & JPT final, a lot of people said it's unfair. It must be the worst headache in the world trying to organise tickets for these big games.

But I agree that season ticket holders shouldn't be able to get extra tickets, we've already got one.

Let's put things into perspective! The big one is the Reading game in the context of this season. How big the Coventry game will be remains to be seen? I think many hype up the derby match. Since 1966 how many times have Pompey and Saints played each other? On the other had Pompey have had a fierce rivalry with Millwall. On getting promotion from Division 4 in 1980, the Millwall match was the big one for them. I shall definitely get myself a ticket for the Reading game ahead of one against our nearest and dearest.
