The players do need to raise their game - as fans I think we have a role to play in helping them do that.

Arsenal will be unleashing their secret weapon on Sunday <ok>

Well no, I mean of course we should be up for the game, we MUST be up for EVERY game for the rest of the season to ensure a 4th place finish. And you know this is one game the crowd WILL be up for, I mean, its the "olde enemy". I'll be happy to see the back of this awful season though.

piskie you're talking alot of rubbish on this thread...

firstly, a fan calling for a managers head and supporting the team on a saturday arent mutually exclusive..

at the end of last season i'm a cardiff fan and i was calling for dave jones to be sacked at the end of the season, sure i wanted the team to be promoted and i gave support every home game but at the same time i knew long term we werent going to get promoted under him, does that mean i wasnt 'getting behind the team'. thats basically what people on this thread are saying..

what the fans mean when they arent exited by the prospect of the only thing to cling on to for the rest of the season is a fight for 4th place is that they believe arsenal should be aiming higher, they see the manchester clubs at the top and want a title challenge at this stage of the season, not competing to be effectively the 4th best team in england...

with regards to the spurs derby, i gather the reason people are downbeat is not because they arent 'even up for it' , but they sense that for the first time in years they go in as underdogs, and thats hard to take.....

for years this used to sum up arsenals and spurs approach ...

one set their sights high and missed them .... (us)

one set their sights low and consistently achived them ... (spuds)

now wenger set his sights away from the top he is hitting them ... that hurts ...

i don't mind not winning (its not a god given right after all) but we with debated that already ... its the not truely comepting that hurts ... we have now set our targets low and we are hitting them ,, any wenger blurb as to trying to win the lot is only adding to the pain

@Swamp summed it nicely, AFC should be aiming much higher than fighting for 4th, ending in the top 4 and qualifying for Europe has been a formality for a big club like us, it was always about competing for trophies etc, not battling for 4th spot. AND THAT'S THE MAIN POINT, the very fact our standards have become so low shows how backward we have progressed, how are we supposed to be thrilled and up for lowering standard compared with the high standards we set? Give me a break.

lowering of standards along side the rising price of season tickets has not helped either ..

paying cheap (ish) prices for dross can be accepted .. please see spurs for proof ... paying top dollar for two bob players now who in their right mind thinks thats something to be proud of and happily accept? ..

With respect fella - The 'rubbish' I'm talking actually makes perfect sense.

4th is all we've got to aim for this season, so regardless that we 'should be aiming higher' - we ain't this season and so we'd better get behind the team and support them to try achieve what we realistically can. Because there's a massive gulf between finishing 4th and 5th and if people can't be bothered, motivated, up for or inspired by the thought of getting Champions league football or not, then I think they have got their priorities skewed out of proportion.

no, you have this idea that a fan cant get behind the team whilst simultaneously wanting a manager out, whenever someone says 'wenger out' you immediately patronise them saying they arent real fans, making out that because you are loyal to wenger you are getting behind the team...

of course people are desperate for CL football, its just the idea that as an arsenal fan thats all they've got to look forwards to that - whereas they want to be up for a title challenge...
