No no no..The cheap option for the board was Keith Millen, and that's a large factor as to where we are now. I don't imagine Del is cheap whatsoever
We had a experienced manager at this level been here done it all before. He left after 2 games!! We now have someone who could be a failure or given time a huge success unfortunately he came when the team were putting in its worse preformance for years. DM was not my first choice but I liked him what I read was positive, talking to scots who know him were positive so I will give him until the end of next season! Because whether or not if he is successfull I want to find out in time not 20 games!!
'Now tell me the the points which weren't facts and clarify why?' Banksy, most of what you stated was your own OPINION - which is entirely valid and to be respected - but not necessarily FACT. GJ brawling with players - I read that on the old 606 but never saw an official report on it. GJ playing his son when there were clearly better midfielders - yeah? Like who? Paul 'legs gone' Hartley perhaps? Again, your opinion, shared with Redprintt and a couple of others. We would definately been relagated..... Not necessarily. POSSIBLY yes, but an impossible prediction as GJ left. We will never know. I will support DM as I did GJ - but he certainly has his work cut out in this job.
Do you not remember the pole on this site (and others) - the board didn't take the cheap option. The option they took was the OVERWHELMING CHOICE OF THE FANS I didn't want Dave Jones or his ilk, they've had their day. Most of us wanted fresh blood with new ideas and we have the best candidate in this respect by a mile... You keep talking about his "inexperience". Funny, wasn't GJ from about the same level (according to you) when he came here..? and look what he did, EVENTUALLY after a bumpy start. The current squad has clearly reached its "sell by" date so forget about individual performances as a large percentage of them will be gone at the end of the year. Whatever happens, the manager will build his own squad for next season and I fully expect them to be in his own mould, i.e. players with a desire to succeed, a thing that has quite clearly deserted a fair number of the current incumbants...
"The option they took was the OVERWHELMING CHOICE OF THE FANS" Not me...........these fans thought he sounded good because what he had done for St Johnstone...... Before his name cropped up I bet 95% of these fans who choose him never heard of him before...........so it was just a hunch... For a start, most of us when GJ was appointed had heard of him, he also took Yeovil from non league status to a good position in league one in 3 seasons.....I'd say that was a good CV. DM, as you say may/could come good once he brings in his own players......but reason we needed to get shot of Millen was to keep us in this division.. Even more important now...if we are looking to move into a new stadium... DM managed to motivate this squad to be the likes of Southampton home and away, so it can be done. Question is.....if we go down, will the players that DM wants, come to Ashton Gate if we are in League 1? plus the gates will be down, could we afford them and will DM want to stay? As I've said before...we go down it will be a disaster.
Ok, we've done this to death now but my point was that there has been much reference by some to doing well with a small team in a lower league - exactly the same as GJ. I would also say that making the equivalent of Cheltenham Town (according to some) competitive with the likes of Celtic and Rangers is a similar achievement... I believe that DM will grasp the opportunity to drive this club forward, he is too ambitious not to and we will ride his wave to success....
Prem.......if we go down, he might not even stay here.........you keep talking about next season, which if we stay up is all fair enough and I'm with you all the way.......but it needs to be sorted now because we get relegated, who knows what will happen.....
We all have to face facts that relegation is a distinct possibility and has been since the opener against Ipswich due to the boards dithering. We don't like it, but it's still there. However if you think about it, a Bristol City doing well near the top of L1 will get bigger attendances than a Bristol City struggling at the bottom of the Championship. But the real issue is that we'd need to bounce straight back from L1 and (if you're in doubt look at 'the Barcelona of L2' this season) that's not as easy as it sounds. L1 is tough division this year and only 3 of the top teams will be promoted, leaving some strong ones behind, and with the likes of Coventry and possibly Forest going down, it will be the same next season or maybe harder with the likes of Crawley coming up. Look how long it took us last time...
'Banksy, most of what you stated was your own OPINION" It is also my opinion that the sea is very deep in places, I have never been down there and seen it, but I can rely on common sense and experts to assure me it is!
Been there done it, got several City shirts in the time it took us to go back up.....That will be another hard slog like it's always been with us.....It will be a disaster because everything that has been done going forward over the last few years would have been for nothing....... Banksy.......most people thought the banks had experts & common sense and look what happened to most of them...........I like to find out the facts myself so I try not rely on anyone. Maybe you think newspaper reporters have common sense and are experts, depends what and who you choose to believe.
