My first ever football match was at Filbert St in 1963.My uncle lived in one of the houses opposite the ground.WBA if I remember correctly and Gordon Banks was in goal for Leicester. So,well done and good luck in the quarter final.
Cheers. Glad one person realised my posts werent strictly serious. Yeah to be honest I do wish you luck in the next round. Will ignore that bit about 1p5wich though..... Trolling over and out.
Thats the diffrence between joan collins and a kit kat...you don't get six fingers in a kit kat anymore...
Hmmm ....... do your contradictions mean that we became a big club (thereby facilitating bubble entry) whilst you were writing your post, or that we are in that bubble anyway and only on a par with Leeds and Forest in terms of delusion?
Still interesting 'though ... Norwich 174,047 England Norfolk Includes Thorpe St. Andrew. Population of Norwich Urban Area is 194,839 (Includes Costessey, Cringleford and Taverham - but not guaranteed to exclude double or triple counting stemming from intra-blood relation parents and offspring).
To be honest, I'd have expected both to be higher, particularly when you look at some of the clubs with higher record attendances... Manchester City 84,569, Manchester United 83,260, Chelsea 82,905, Everton 78,299, Aston Villa 76,588, Sunderland 75,118, Tottenham Hotspur 75,038, Charlton Athletic 75,031, Arsenal 73,707, Sheffield Wednesday 72,841, Bolton Wanderers 69,912, Newcastle United 68,386, Sheffield United 68,287, Huddersfield Town 67,037, Birmingham City 66,844, West Bromwich Albion 64,815, Blackburn Rovers 62,522, Liverpool 61,905, Wolverhampton Wanderers 61,315, Cardiff City 57,893, Leeds United 57,892, Hull City 55,019, Burnley 54,775, Middlesbrough 53,802, Crystal Palace 51,482, Coventry City 51,455, Portsmouth 51,385, Stoke City 51,380, Nottingham Forest 49,946, Port Vale 49,768, Fulham 49,335, Millwall 48,672, Oldham Athletic 47,671, Notts County 47,310.
Our constraint at Filbert Street was always the ground size - I was at a Cup quarter-final there in the 1970s against Arsenal when there were 39,000 in there (obviously before all seaters) and there really wasn't any room to swing the proverbial ... how we ever got 47,000 in there I'll never know ... The KP supposedly has been built with 'easy' expansion to 45,000 in mind - it will be interesting to see if that is ever done ... if we get to the Prem and the pricing is sensible then it may happen in my lifetime - and if they bringg back terracing behind the goals who knows (those were the days)
Your 47,000 was a one off in 1928 by the sounds of things. In the days before seating it looks like your record is around 42,000
We should have been 20th on the list, we once sold 60,000 tickets for Boothferry Park for a league game on Boxing Day against Rotherham, but there was a nation rail strike and 8,000 couldn't get there.
As I mentioned above - I was at the Arsenal game with my old man - we had tickets in the Double Decker (above the Kop) and I remember looking over at the Kop and popular (as it was then called) side - several people required help from the St Johns people due to the crush ... the atmosphere was brilliant - unfortunately we lost 1-0 to a John Radford goal - showing my age now.
I was at the same game ! My family lived at 53 Hazel Street which is now where the nurses accommodation is. Len Shipman the old Chairman was our rent man as he owned most of the houses around the ground.
Because too many companys wanted to build student flats around the area and people in the houses didnt want to sell
I was at Loughborough Uni in the late 60's early 70's, and used to go to Filbert Street quite a lot, I don't remember the crowd size's, but I do have memories of Frank Worthington, Keith weller etc, exciting footballers. I used to go to Grace Road in the summer months to watch proper cricket being played! It was always a good area for sport. I was at the game last saturday and left highly disapointed, not just because we lost, but the manner in which we lost. Believe me that was not Norwich at anywhere near their best, in fact in my opinion we were appaling. That's not taking anything away from Leicester, you turned up and turned us over, it was a deserved victory and I wish you well in the rest of the competition. I was in the Barclay end, if you don't know the ground that was the end stand to the right of where you were. I stood there for a few minutes at the end of the game watching the Leicester fans swirling their scarfs, singing, jumping up and down and generally taking the piss out of us. That for me is the joy of winning, and to be part of it is fantastic, to not be part of it is ****ing awful. But, it's part of being a football supporter, sometimes you have to take it and move on, we know this, we've had a brilliant last 2/3 seasons, but before that it was terrible. I'm not on here to wind you up, but as I was browsing I saw the heading of the thread! It generally gets me going as Delia saved our club from instinction and we owe her a big thanks for doing it. Good luck in the next round, I hope you get Chelsea and stuff them. ILD OTBC
Nowt wrong with Delias recipes, but what the **** is a tsp ? Does she miss out her vowels ? Glad her dosh saved you ILD but can you ask her to tell her publishers to print teaspoon or tablespoon - cos it makes a hell of a difference. Back to winning ways for you lot this weekend we hope against the Cornwall mancs. Hope, just like Delias turkeys, you stuff em good and proper
Might, just might, be down to the fact that she does like the occasional sherbet, it sometimes leads to a bit of sluring, "Ipshit" for example! Anyway, why are you worring about cooking, that's the ladies job from where I come from. (double If we can get a point on Sunday then I'll be chuffed with that, it will be another step towards Prem survival. Short journey for the away support this week!! Sorry I don't know who you're playing but good luck anyway. ILD OTBC
