    Does anyone know how much money we have gained through tickets/television from getting into the quarters of the FA cup and the final of the League cup, or how much we would get if we were to win the cup double?

    I was wondering because of the ongoing debate about the percieved benefits of the cups and getting into the Champions league- surely success in the cups must have some financial benefit that we can use to invest in players next season?

    Prize money is nothing, but in terms of overall revenue the CC yields about 1.5-2 million total to the winner compared to EL at around 6 million and CL at about 35.

    prize money for winning is £100000 for Carling cup and £2m for the FA cup. obviously ticket sales and tv rights are on top of that but not sure how much.

    is that £25m plus TV & gate? I bet most of that goes out of the clubs pocket with win bonus'.

    I'd still much prefer winning the CC cup and/or the FA cup to CL qualification this season. A trophy at Wembley trumps finishing 4th as finishing 4th will only ruin us next season. We need to win a cup this season and then progress on to a top 3 finish next season. success breed success and those finishing 3rd & 4th this season wont have a hope of winning the CL next season.

    I wonder how winning a cup is viewed by players compared to CL qualification, all else being equal. so player x has a choice of joining a club narrowly missing CL qualification but has won both domestic cups for that season or one that has failed to win a trophy yet scraped Cl qualification...

    £25m for everything!

    I agree about the cups being worth more, however sometimes when your teams just won a cup they are confident to go win another just as in 2005

    Suppose it would change between players but I'd love to know that.

    Surey CL qualification for prospective players but players already at the club may think differently. Looking at the club I can't see many names who haven't played in the CL or won't be at the club long enough to play in it when we do qualify. Players like Spearing, Jordan Henderson, Kelly etc will all be very happy if we win two domestic cups, CL qualification is good too but if they believe they are playing well enough they know the club's goal to get into the CL isn't far off.

    Anyway, 10m+ Europa League (if we win a cup) + recent success should make us much more powerful in this summers transfer market.

    As I type this, we have made £337,500 in prize money from our F.A Cup run. If we were to go on and win the F.A Cup, we would make £3,397,500 in prize money.

    For the Carling Cup, the prize money is nowhere near that. At the moment, I can't find the prize money figures for the earlier round but i'll keep digging. What I have found is that the winner collects £100,000 and the runner-up £5,000.

    Add onto this ticket sales and food and drink sales for our home ties and you can see that it's not that much in comparsion to the Champions League money, for example, but it boosts us financially.

    EDIT: I can't find any information on prize money for the earlier rounds of the Carling Cup.

    I believe the gate receipts from the Exeter, Brighton, Stoke, Chelsea and City away games in the Carling Cup were split so we would have gained some revenue from that. Add that to the revenue gained from our home game with City and it all adds up.

    <ok>

    I think this is an important point;
    We have a lot of young players: if the plan is to continually strengthen squad until its good enough to go for league & champions league, this year will be one of the few where we can really go for the domestic cups: once in champions league again they'll not be taken as seriously especially the CC.

    Let's build this squad up methodically:

    CC & maybe even FA this year, realistically probably 5th (still holding out for 4th of course).

    If we get 5th; then concentrate on league position & Europa next year, then with the right additions League & champions league in year three.

    Just like that lol.;)

    The money from the cups is not great but it all helps. There are a couple of things that are more important than the money we win though:

    1. Gives players more belief in their own ability and confidence as a team.
    2. Improves our current stature in other players minds, both when we are playing them or if they are considering moving to us.
    3. Improves our status worldwide in terms of marketing and when we are dealing with advertisers/sponsors
    4. It is fooking brilliant as a fan, winning any cup ( even the europa) feels better than just qualifying for another tournament. Who has ever been out dancing in the streets with alcohol in your hands celebrating finishing 4th?

    I think all revenue from cup games is split 45/45 between each clubs with the remaining 10% going to the competition organiser. Tho the FA pocket all the money from Wembley matches. So I guess you'd get maybe £750k each from the home ties and the away games against City and Chelsea, but much less from the other ones.

    I don't think the FA or FL distribute any of the broadcasting revenue from the domestic cups, so you're not looking at much overall. If you count prize money plus gate money you'd maybe get £3 million if you win the CC and £6 million if you win the FA Cup.

    £5,000 for the runner up is an insult.
