Met Eddie Jordan after the British grand prix a few years ago when jordan was at it's prime . Not paddock club , just walked through the Minardi garage after the race and straight through the Paddock
met Dr Karl, Toadie and Steph from neighbours. also met le god - in jumpin' jaks - got pic with him! Most famous probably is stone cold Steve Austin - the WWE wrestler. at MTV studios in london
You couldn't be more right. I'm "lucky" enough to work with a lot of people of this ilk in my job - to be honest, the general rule of thumb is that before they're known they're fine, once they get known they often become difficult, then if they're really well known they tend to be okay again. Have met lots as a result, but the nicest was probably Kylie and the worst by far was Bruce Forsythe......
I used to work for Endsleigh when they sponsored the football league and subsequently got to go to the play-offs at Wembley. In 1994, after way too much beer before kick-off, I was pointing percy in the executive toilets when Jimmy Hill walked in: "Hi Jimmy" "Hello young man" "Can I ask you something?" "Certainly young man" "Well you were a pro for years then a campaigner for the abolition of the maximum wage and now a pundit...." "Yes" "So why did you let your son become an F1 driver?" Mr Hill simply put his old man back in the barracks, turned on his heel and left without saying a word.
Actually the most surprising - I got drunk with Liam Gallagher in Toronto last year. He was actually really perfectly pleasant. I wasn't expecting that.
Well I certainly can't beat some of those. I met Gary Lineker at Staplewood though. There's a transfer rumour in there somewhere.
Used to work in Charing Cross, and there seemed to be a few 'celebs' around there. Walked past Richard Griffiths, Chris Evans, and Ian Hislop. Watched Saints v West Ham with Billy out of Eastenders (no I don't watch that hate fest) in Muswell Hill with some mates, he was alright. Walked past Timothy spall in East Dulwich, London, said his name too loud to my partner, and he smiled and I said 'alright' and so did he. The Saints squad, ahhhhhhh.
In a Saints capacity I was lucky enough to go to the opening night of Celebrations (that awful club that MLT opened with Mike Osman) which doubled up as Alan Ball's 50th birthday party. The whole squad were there and an awful lot of the 1976 crew. That was a pretty special night for me, though Peter Rodriguez doesn't half like a chat whilst you're trying to have a pee.....
..a woman at work reckons she was custard-pied by the Chuckle Brothers....... .......I think she said custard......
I think one of the strangest but amusing celebrities I ever met was Barbara Streisand. I was the guest of a member of a particular club in London. We arrived at the venue later than we envisaged it was just as well as for what ever reason the Chefs had gone on some sort of strike so there was no food. We arrived and handed over our overcoats only to hear a tirade of abuse from a lady behind us. It may well be the norm in this day and age to use the kind of language she was using but then it was quite unusual. She was giving the manager what for and walking over towards yours truly. I kid you not she left the manager in no doubt as to his parentage as well as his habits of a sexual nature. She then walked over to me as she obviously saw me staring and asked did I have a problem as well. I said "no Mam I wouldn't dare". To which she slapped my back laughed and grabbed her coat and left......does that count as a meeting?
i meet Gary Rhodes when i was at collage , i had to work as his commis chef during on of his cooking demonstrations . He was so rude and arrogant that i ended up telling him to f**k off and get your own ladle . made my mates laugh , but my lecturer wasn't best pleased
As a child, Jeff Capes was the most famous to me. I met him at Alton Towers when on a family holiday. He told me if I wanted to be as strong as him, I should squeeze a tennis ball in each hand a hundred times a day! (I gave up after 2 days!) As a taxi driver I once took Mark Hughes, Dennis Irwin and Viv Anderson to the Dolphin Hotel (LOL) in town when they came to play for Jason Dodds testimonial. Hughes told Irwin to tip me (£10) after we had a laugh on the way down about him becoming the new Saints manager! Also met Beatts, Dodds, Le Tiss, Alan Ball, Glenn Cockerill, Gordon Strachen (not all at once). Also, he's not famous but a family friend used to be Ayrton Sennas private pilot and he has some amazing stories! My wife met Whitney Housten once, years ago at an after show party.........does that count?
> Also, he's not famous but a family friend used to be Ayrton Sennas private pilot and he has some amazing stories! Now there's a man I'd love to have met. Of that era, Keke Rosberg is fantastic value in person. Never short of a word.
Years ago back in the 80's i was walking along East Ham high street with my mate on the way to West Ham vs Swansea (it was an old 1st division match) when a coach pulled up beside us and the driver in a thick Welsh accent asked us the way to upton park, Me giving it Billy big Bollox thinking it was Swansea supporters got on the bus saying i'll show you the way,, when i looked down the aisles it was only the friggin Swansea team, so there was me sitting next to big Tosh showing them the way and Tosh taking the piss out of my accent, we got to Upton Park by the main entrance and all the West ham supporters started slagging the players of when all of a sudden the coach stops opens the doors and let me and my mate off, the West ham supporters stood silent wondering wtf was happening, But i will never forget that day big Tosh was an absolute gentleman i wished him luck for that day and he said to me ahh you dont mean it, after about 35 minutes they were winning 2-0 but by half time it was 3-2 to West Ham and we went on to win 5-2 and Swansea was relegated at the end of the season. But thanks for the memory's Tosh. All the best Brooking
I was paper boy for Ken Wimshurst and later Eric Martin, they lived in the same house at different times on my round, now that dates me a bit don't it?
Reginald D Hunter (big black comedian) at the comedy store in London. I was one of the targets to most of his jokes due to my long hair at the time. Met him briefly after the show. Funny bloke and down to earth.
