How it is fair that we play a game on the 30th April (a Saturday) then have Sunday off, before playing again on the 2nd May (Monday). This is when Plymouth has been re arranged, we get one day off between two games, how is that possibly fair? Whats wrong with having it on the 3rd - the Tuesday? Bit of common sense would go down well in the football league and the FA.
To be honest this used to be the rule not the exception on Bank Holidays, this will surely give more of our supporters the ability to attend the game?
Yes It will also give plymouth a chance to get a few more in to swell their coffers. So we are away to Brentford (a particularly hard game) on the Sat then away to Plymouth on the Monday I guess traveling down on the Sunday. That to me is just not fair!!!!!
It's the same for them though, and follows a pretty massive trip to Exeter. One would assume that Plymouth would have a smaller squad than us to cover tired players. Let's not worry too much.
the fixtures are not fair..... The so called favourites for the league all end with home games and also started with home games!!... They are rigged....
How over a full season does starting and ending with a home game have a MAJOR impact? Anyone can beat anyone. We lost opening day!????? Also i think the fixtures are set up like that to allow a better choice for live coverage Brighton are away on last day. Quit winging ;-)
Look i am not whinging, just saying look at the favourite for both the Championship and league one... and what have Brighton got to do with it?
Simples. It will make the end of the season more exciting!. Its like when we were not allowed to get any points in our first 7 games last season, we had to give everyone else a head start! They are penalising you for looking as though you may achieve your ambition of automatic promotion so are sticking a spoke in the wheels!C
Singing blue - good response as always ??? lol! Bpl i understand any team would like to start or finish at home i do see your point, but i wouldnt claim it as a fix or have any impact on the final table. In fairness.... a good away day on the final game would be my prefered choice! And Brighton were tipped to gain promotion but they are away on the final day right???
Okay have a look at this Championship, The top Favourites at the start of the season Middlesborough, QPR, Reading, Burnley & Forest. Forest start with an away game and finish with and away game, the rest all start and finish with a home game. League 1 Favourites Saints, Peterborough, Huddersfield, Shewff Wed, Charlton. Huddersfield start with an away game, and finish with a home game. The other 4 all start and finish with an away game. Brighton were not in the top few fourites for the season at all............... So if saints need to win their last game of the season to go up, would you prefer a home game or and away game? Look my team are at home last game, but still it is not right and myabe they are doing it for the Tv or something but the chances that all the top sides starting and ending with home games is remote, be worth a punt next year I have stated this in an email to the football league just to ask, and they totally sidestepped the question.........and are now looking into a response for me? lol..........
As i said it is a valid point you make but its purely for the game, entertainment and media. Of course i would like to be at home last game if we needed a win to get promoted, but its a game we would be playing at some stage in the season anyhow so makes no difference. On the flip side, you could say that the teams away from home on opening and closing day have a chance to gain those same possible 6 points during the season and therefore build momentum etc! Pressure is on Southampton every home game as well as away and i really dont think it has any impact. However it is very odd this happens. Good research btw! Can you tell me..... is this the same in the prem and league 2????
You have forgotten something very important and that is it is not the league who pick favorites and the like but the media. These day's it is all done on a computer and the games are chosen at random by the football league. Also they are not aware of the teams when the games are chosen, as each team is given a code. The codes are then transformed back into teams when the computers work is done. It is as they say the luck of the draw. If you look at it another way if you didn't have a particular bios it would not effect you one way or the other. Same as it doesn't effect the Football league.
Bloody Hell these Boscombe chumps see conspiracy everywhere, whether it's refs or now the fixtures. saints and The Skates always have opposite fixtures and across the country there are loads of instances where police resource ect are taken into account. Historically Boscombe have had the same home fixture as saints. The league sidestepped your letter because it was written in green ink.
Very clever. Squashed fruit stains on the letter as well in a sort of dark cherry red perhaps. The fixture compilations are something that take a long time to work out and several things have to be taken into consideration. I like to see us play away first game as we very seldom manage to win or even draw it.
One thing he seems to have overlooked is the fact that nobody could predict who would be at the top come this time of the season. Who would have said bournemouth would have such a good season with the troubles they have had money wise.
Hey, This was just something i thought i would raise. I know Saints cant play at home the same day as Pomepy and there are many other considerations etc, but lets be honest what are the chances of the favourites all having those starting home and away games. Seriously at the start of next season, it will be interesting to if this happens again. We are know that the premier league is not clean cut, look at those seasons when Super Sunday included the top 4 playing each other... Overall as this is a forum and just something i noticed..
Id imagine fixtures are random and then tailored to avoid local derby teams at home together and also shuffled about to create entertainment such as Super Sundays etc. After all .... football is a business now isnt it?
I remember reading in FourFourTwo about a year ago (no longer read it, its deteriated to being only just above the standard of 'Kick' and 'Shoot'; 'When Saturday Comes' is the decent stuff) an interview with the guy who basically sorts the fixtures. He actually used Saints and Pompey as the example of seperating rival's home games, apparently the clubs have escpecially strongly requested this. Other than derbies, he said it was very random, with a few changes due to TV and whatever. It is just coincidence I believe.
Yeah i agree reading something like that... If i remember he was a Watford fan... I know football is a business, but i was just curious looking at the fixtures...... Will be interesting to see, next season..
