After a decent run under Warnock I expect our lack of real quality in depth to show again. We'll fall short of the play-offs, sign nobody in the summer with the board touting "we're not spending money for the sake of it, only the right players to compliment an already large, strong squad. Also we won't sell our best players, promise" then sell Snodgrass on the last day of the transfer window after a summer of setting up a situation where he wants to leave, then say "we couldn't do anything, he wanted to leave. Blame the player not us". We will then struggle again next season, Warnock will be sacked on Feb 1st and be told he wasn't delivering enough despite not having the tools to do so.

We'll then have to go through 4 more matches of Neil Redfearn "proving" himself while we "don't rush the signing as we want it to be the right one". Then get someone promising that makes everyone forget what a bastard bates is for a couple of months before going round this horrible depressing merry-go-round until the day bates dies.

I just refuse to play along with this stupid game. Signing Warnock hasn't changed anything that's wrong with the club. The board still pussyfooted around and hesitated making the signing and only rushed into it because Wolves and Town were after Warnock. They only gave Redfearn those games to keep open the cheap option instead of understanding that he's not a manager by this point for a reason. Signing Warnock doesn't change the fact that the timing of the managerial change is absolutely appalling and is by no means coincidental. It doesn't change the fact that our wage budget is pathetically low for a club this size with the amount of money we have rolling through the tills, much less one that is supposed to be striving for promotion. It doesn't change the fact that the £9.5 million touted is even more pathetic when you factor in that that includes the sales of Schmeichel and Gradel. No new signings were sanctioned with the Howson money because it just about covered the £2 million overspend.

It doesn't change the fact that £15 million worth of player sales has gone nowhere. It hasn't gone into increased wages because we're still paying players **** all. Please don't forget that we're still spending millions developing a stadium we don't own, and on top of that it's a development that isn't needed for anything other than to feed bates obsession with property development.

It doesn't change the fact that the club continues to rely on a transfer policy of signing rejects from other clubs, whether it be through Bosman's or loans of players who can't get in their own first teams. 70 odd loan signings since bates took control, that's 10 a season and it's too much. We'll be getting more loan signings as well as Warnock needs some of his own players to get the best out of the squad. Granted, they'll probably perform better than your O'Deas and Smiths as they will want to play for the manager they are familiar with, but after the honeymoon period we'll go back to struggling. Everyone else has calmed down because their love for Leeds United is telling them to get behind the team and hope beyond hope that we're not still going backwards, or rather sideways might be more accurate.

Yes, Grayson signed the players that aren't good enough. But the board tell him where he's allowed to look for signings.

Agree with a lot of what you said Marko....

The timing of Grayson's sacking was wrong. Agree.
Relying on Redfearn to step up was wrong. Agree.
Rushed to get Warnock in....... how do you know ? If Warnock had a better offer then he could have taken it.

Whether the board panicked, rushed it, fluked it, however you want to put it, appointing Warnock is a positive thing.

I hope Bates is a bit more willing to back Warnock, but I have my doubts. We'll see.

Warnock was brought to Monaco ahead of schedule to make sure we got his signature, because he was getting offers from elsewhere. If anything it's a good thing that they went out of their way to make sure that we got him on time, but he should have been appointed before the saturday after Grayson was sacked if they knew they wanted him. He was in Leeds the day after Grayson was sacked, if the club knew they wanted him, why has it taken this long?

Marko, I told you last Thursday, when it was all doom & gloom on here about the managerial situation & the seeming lack of interviewing going on, that I reckoned Warnock had already been lined up & we'd been waiting until he'd sorted his QPR severance out before announcing his appointment. That was the day before his Monte Carlo meeting with Bates. It just goes to show sometimes things happen which goes against everything we've come to expect under this Bates regime.
Having said that your scenario's probably right & that's why it's depressing!
