A lot of those players were just up their own holes and thought they were clearly better players than they really were. I'm not going to go through them individually, I can't be fecking arsed. Grayson did as well as he could, but what a shrewd twat bates is(I say that sarcastically), sack the manager after the transfer window shuts. Saves him having to invest any money on good players for his new manager. Bates is the problem.
The thing is, it was not Grayson that was the problem it is and always will be Bates for not putting up money, Harvey for not being able to negotiate contracts with players and Gwyn and his veto rights in signing and selling players. The manager didn’t have any say in these matters. And if people can’t or are not willing to see what the real reason for our club not going forward, can’t sign quality players etc. Then we are in serious trouble.
I don't think he was good enough but I'm willing to ignore it to keep focused on the bigger issue. I can see what's going to happen now, all the protesting will calm down and everyone will forget about it just long enough for bates to keep sucking the club dry. How can the signing of Warnock be that much of a distraction from the fact that the club with the biggest fanbase in the league is paying the highest ticket prices and merchandise prices and still only has a mid table wage budget at best? It's a relegation wage budget if you factor in that transfer fees get taken out of it. That £9.5 million looks even less impressive when you factor in that despite being £2 million over budget which you'd expect was due to the Gradel and Schmeichel sales, Grayson was refused a signing after selling Howson for £2 million. So you have to assume the Howson sale is covering the over spend. Which means that when you factor in the sales of Schmeichel and Gradel, we're spending less than £7 million of our £30 million turnover on playing staff. How can you possibly forget this just because we signed a good manager? Scraping the bottom of the barrel and hoping for the best is not Leeds United. We have the means to take a hold on this league and overpower every other team in it, even standing toe to toe with those clubs on parachute payments, yet the board refuses, constantly spouting "we can't afford it" when we obviously can. "Where's all this money coming from? It doesn't grow on trees" no it's coming out of our pockets you thieving ****.
SG did a fantastic job given the circumstances and I think it's a bit silly people on here turning on him because he wasn't perfect, what manager is? We had the budget to compete with the Watfords and Barnsleys of the division but he had us up the other end fighting for the play-offs.
I'm sick of people saying "this is Leeds United", we're the same as any other Championship club with poor funding, and we've done incredibly well in those circumstances. Being Leeds United doesn't automatically give us the money needed to succeed or make the players magically better.
It doesn't but it should do, we have a history, a large ground, great fan base and support so it should be the case that we can afford better wages and better quality signings. Agree it doesn't automatically work that way but only because of the penny pinching chairman.
I didn't mean it like 'We're Leeds United, we deserve promotion'. I meant it like Grayson shouldn't be idolised by some fans, and we should accept a 7th place finish as a good achievement when we had 2 of best players in the division in Gradel and Snoddy, also Howson, Johnson, Kilkenny, Becchio, Somma. Add on the 3 key players this season who were under used last season. We had the squad to finish top 6 and we didn't. People can say Grayson had limited funds, but we had the squad to get into the playoffs last season, even automatic, but we didn't. He should have gone at the end of last season. Like I said before, I thank him for the job he did, but last season we underachieved and he should have gone.
Aye good luck to Grayson, he'll need it. Not the best manager in the world by a long shot and dreadful man management skills, he will need to up his game or he'll find himself out of work pretty quickly.
Bates should have backed him last jan in the transfer market when we were 4th.
