Watched the match on TV last night, well done for getting through but............ for a 70 thousand crowd it was shocking how the froggies out sung you's. We make more noise at the Stadium of Light with half the crowd you's had last night
The atmosphere is always worse on European nights, particularly when the game is so tight. Most of the fans were probably ****ting themselves for a fair part of the game...every time the ball came near Brown. Still, at least we manage to fill our stadium
When you consider the poulation of greater manchester its no big deal, and what is the point of a huge crowd if they sit there in silence?
Why is the atmosphere worse on champions league nights? I assumed you would be really up for it despite the nerves, its a lot louder at the Emirates anyway in european fixtures.
They don't though, do they? Silly boy Whereas Stamford Bridge is full of northerners like yourself For the really massive European games, eg when Barcelona, Milan, Juventus have come to town in the past, the atmosphere is white-hot at OT, as good as anywhere. Last night we were still 'expected' to progress, so the intensity wasn't quite there
I sort of see your point Stam but even so it was a 0-0 scoreline so anything could happen, and Marseille should be a lot more interesting than playing teams like Villa for example.
I know, I was only messing I've seen you objecting to someone calling you northern on another thread, so I thought I'd drop that one in. Very childish of me.
I don't think the atmosphere would be great for a Villa game either (unless it was pivotal in the title race like the "Machedaaaaa!" one a couple of seasons back). OT struggles to get going unless it's the later stages of a cup competition or a PL match against a big rival.
When you consider that Greater Manchester has more than ten football league clubs in the immediate vicinity, of which five are in the Premier League, it's a pretty big deal. It was 1-0 after five minutes - the atmosphere dropped noticeably at that point as everyone realised that would put us through and all we had to do was hold on. The problem at OT, as at the Emirates and SB, is that everyone expects us to beat 90% of teams that play there. So unless it's a massive game there's not the same edge to it, and people don't always feel the need to make a big noise if the team is winning pretty well. Had Marseille equalised at any point last night, the noise would have gone up noticeably.
Both Wigan and Blackburn struggle to get a crowd, and Bolton does reasonably well... Also look at the population comparison inside the M60 and in those local areas...
My point exactly - being in Greater Manchester is no guarantee of crowds. There's maybe a million people inside the M60, but no more than that. Given United and City are both in there, they have to share those fans, wherease Wigan and Bolton have entire boroughs to themselves. Tho' Blackburn's a bit out in the sticks...
managers cant say anything against the refs this is a joke why do they want managers to give there views on the game if they cant refer to that man in black this is completly sad and out of order keep going alex they are a joke
