I watched the superbowl a couple of years ago and it's so weird. Every time there is any kind of stoppage they go back to a studio and talk about it, it's a very strange game. They're supposed to have changed our sports to make them faster and more exciting, yet they have incredibly long stoppages all the time.
I agree about rugby league's world championship being not exactly all-encompassing of the world. It's a bit like the world championship of conkers when only so many countries have horse chestnut trees and therefore most of the world is ineligible (or something) or that Jamaican bobsleigh team taking part in the Olympics even though the only ice in Jamaica is in rum cocktails
Baseball is played to a high standard in Japan, Korea, Cuba & several other countries but they don't get to compete in the World Series.
RL officials are looking at expanding the World Club Challenge!!! I can't see much interest in an away game Uranus. The sad thing is, they're serious when they come out with these things.
talking of rugby, i really dont see how people can still claim rugby doesnt cut up the pitch, i watched the 1st 5 minutes of tonights game (mainly just so i could take the piss out the attendance) and from the 1st tackle in the 1st minute you could see chunks of pitch flying about...now i dont have a degree in sports pitch science, but i can tell when something is ****ing something up, it aint rocket science.
I think it's fairly obvious that our pitch would be better if no rugby was played on it, though it's equally obvious that it would be better if no football was played on it either. The pitch was shagged this season before the rugby season had even started and as all the ground staff reckon the rugby does less damage than the football, so I think we should take their word for it. Reading have a decent pitch, despite the fact they ground share with London Irish and there's plenty of grounds that have no rugby and have pitches worse than ours. The problem is, that modern bowl stadiums block light and stop the grass growing, with lights that replicate sunlight(as Reading have) then this problem is avoided. We have a problem, as the council own the stadium and won't pay for these lights, so unless Assem and Adam decide it's worth sticking a few quid into the SMC to fund these lights, the pitch will stay as it is.
there not gona come out publicly and state that the rugby messes it up tho are they, as it would just add fuel to the fire for the people that complain about it(like me). ive never seen chunks of pitch flying all over the place from the 1st minute in a city game.
I'm no rugby fan, I've only ever been to one rugby game, it was at Wembley and I was so pissed I can't even remember who played, or who won, or where my jeans went. I just think(based on what our ground staff have said), that the problem lies beyond what happens on match days in either sport. Someone on CI just suggested that we should buy longer grass seed, I think that's probably the answer.
I watched the last ten minutes of the rugby and it looks like a tatey field. The interviews at the end of the game really highlighted just how **** the pitch is. By that I don't mean they actually spoke about the pitch just the fact they were conducted on the pitch and you could see the sorry state it is in. A problem that really needs addressing.
To defend American spots, the whole game itself is built around the breaks, its not just about the game its about the whole occasion. The Super Bowl is far more than just a match between two sides, its the big finale of the season, a big showpiece if you wish. I for one do enjoy watching the Super Bowl, however my side did lose yet again this year.
It's a sorry game that needs commercial breaks to liven it up. Anyway, I'm only here because I was waiting for someone to talk about the atmosphere in Uranus.
Half time is usually 12 minutes long. For the superbowl it's 30 minutes. Other than that, I believe it's exactly the same. Edit: Oh, except for the national anthem bit.
What about one that needs tasers? The Toronto side might have a problem though, tasers are banned in Canada.
