So we buy back ups and keep the very team that cant compete for trophies? I dont get that logic A4L. You do sell your best players if those very same players are not good enough - we have to upgrade here not tweak around the edges.
Regardless of who is right. And I think you are wrong. Sagna is good. He isnt amazing but he is good enough. But regardless of who is right there are about 10 other areas we need improving before we look for a new rb.
We already have the money to spend. I thought we had some sort of cash reserve. The players I am getting rid off are players that are a burden on the wages despite not even playing much. These players need to be sold ASAP. Walcott will also add money to the transfer kitty because he will go for a good price. Then add that to our budget. Having players like Song and Ramsey as back ups is an upgrade from the backs up we have had this season.
I think walcott will fetch a bit but dont forget he has only 1 yr left on his deal which will limit the amount we get to him to probably around 10m
Thats where I think your approach is flawed SJW. The first team player today will not happily play back up.
And we need bench players who wenger trusts to play. Then when we get injuries we dont have to bring in someone who the crowd and wenger obviously dont rate and therefore has no confidence.
And who is that RB? When Sagna returns to full fitness he will make the talk of getting rid of him soundly silly.
People who do not play can't make any noises if the first team are winning. And that is what our new team with 4 or 5 new players will hopefully do next season.
I really dont know - its a tough one, but just dont think Sagna is good enough and is one of the players I would shed. We're in an awful mess and it certainly isnt going to be easy getting out of it.
Ah but they do. They unsettle the squad. If they were prepared to play back up then fine - but I just dont see it happening.
But even if your right it doesnt matter. To be a good side who wins stuff not every player has to be a world beater. They just all need to be good with several top quality players.
So its already a position where you can't find a replacement yet but you want to get rid of someone like Sagna. We have many other position that need to be fixed and right back is not one of those that is high on the list. Firstly, fix the urgent problems then come back and refine a position which think you can upgrade to a world class level.
I've listed out the majority of positions with replacements, but must admit the full backs are the hardest to pinpoint. Still doesnt stop me thinking that Sagna just doesnt have the all round game to help us get back to being title contenders.
More impotantly they have to have the right attitude, work as a team, have the courage to play, and never give up. These are qualities sadly lacking in the first team. My assessment of players is based on both ability and attitude. One without the other is useless.
Sagna has got into the PFA team of the year twice. At his best and with better players around him I have no doubt he will be excellent again. Last two times he came up against Bale he kept him out of the game. In fact, Bale only got into the last NLD after Sagna got that serious injury. If we can sign the attacking players we need then also having a world class attacking right back is not urgent. Just give me a quality defender like Sagna.
Don't think you should sell the core of your team, you need stability. Who would play £20M for Walcott? (insert Liverpool joke here) Let's have a look - Djourou £5m - very lucky to get a buyer, let alone £5M. Squillaci £3m - he'll probably leave on a free. Benayoun (end loan) Ramsey £12m - he won't and shouldn't go. Park £1m - why sell Park, he's hardly to blame. Chamakh £5m - realistic Mannone £1m - lucky to break six figures for your... fourth choice keeper? Diaby £1m Denilson £5m Gibbs £7m - who would pay this for him? Bendtner £7m - Even Sunderland wouldn't actually pay money for Bendtner. But he'll probably, somehow, sell for around that. Vela £5m - Again, over-priced. Very optimistic, FIFA 12 style prices. Think Arsenal just need maybe 4 good players, and at least one with a little drive and urgency. You have a good team, it's just lacking, and lacking very publicly right now.
