If you think a club the size of Man Utd is simply going to completely decline and not be challenging for honours then you are really deluded. Just because Liverpool declined after a period of domination does not mean that Man Utd will inevitably do the same. It's not written in the stars or a law of physics for ****s sake. Plus Liverpool never really took advantage of having a large global fan base like Man Utd have.

I wasn't dismissing you. I was saying that Man Utd have taken advantage of their large global fan base more than Liverpool did. Man Utd aren't simply going to disappearing. They will be up there fighting for honours, even though they may go through a transition period when Sir Alex leaves.
These days football is as much corporate as football orientated so its not surprising that utd have cornered the market.

It's not a question of you disappearing no one is suggesting that but whether you accept it or not united and its global fan base will suffer from the noisy neighbours more than any other team and couple that with the impending retirement of fungus then the decline is inevitable
As PMK said above, money doesn't always guarantee success. Man Utd will still be up there challenging.
As in if Fergie is replaced by a Chequebook manager the money he spends might not bring the success. Thats why Big Sam is waiting in the wings.
I truly believe that this is a truism that United are going to learn painfully. For all their success both on and off the pitch, United have not maximised their corporate opportunities. Sure they have an income that means that they can service their debts and still retain profits. However, that debt is still there, In non-corporate terms they have been paying an interest only mortgage. If you look at every other corporate business around the world, they are all in the process of securing their futures by actively reducing their debts. Somehow United appear to think that they are the exception that proves the rule. Even when they did try and raise funds to pay off the debt, the offer was withdrawn in Singapore and no attempts appear to have been made to re-float it. This problem will come back to bite their bum!
Well i'll take your word for it Dave with regards to United's ineptitude to take full advantage of their present financial muscle. But how quick will it take for it to 'come back and bite their bum'? Soon i hope.
