What do Gooners think our next step should be with regard to how the team is run? It is now painfully clear that the current set-up is not working. We suffer an almost inevitable collapse every season just at the time when we should be kicking on. The number of injuries we have is a joke. Can anyone attribute this to bad luck alone? There must be something wrong there. Perhaps the issue that is of the most concern is the squad. We have a large group of players who are simply not good enough:skill wise, commitment wise and passion wise. We desperately need to freshen up the squad with established quality (how many times have I typed this?). Another major concern is the manager himself. The team looks out of ideas in the creative department, not up for it, de-motivated and the team spirit seems to be low. We have absolutely no versatility when it comes to tactics and simply try the same approach throughout the 90 minutes regardless or how the match is going. I have thought, throughout the last few years that if Wenger had a great squad at his disposal then we would win something. Now I am not so sure, his ideas seem to be outdated and every team seems to know how to play against us. The Chelsea game was celebrated as a resounding victory against a top team and perhaps the start of a new era of optimism. It was a false dawn, Chelsea are not the team they once were and still should have buried us in the first half. So what happens this Summer? Has the penny finally dropped for Wenger? Should we give him one more chance to overhaul the squad, make some big signings and start afresh next season or should be get a new manager in with new ideas and allow him to alter the squad in whatever way he sees fit? Gooners, your thoughts...
I'd get Kronke to invest some of his money into the squad and buy Hazard, Goetze a proper DM and another CF (I also think we still need another CB) I'd ship out Hill-Wood and bring David Dein back onto the board. I think you'd see a rejuvenated Wenger if this happened.
This I agree with, but on the playing side: Two CB's - Hummels to partner Merts and another as a back up with Kos as the second back up. Podolski (if he can sort his attitude out) Goetze Hazard / Muller Two starting full backs A defensive midfielder - maybe M'Villa (but not 100% on him) A second wide player - Jaun Manuel Vargas Team ------------------------------Szczesny new FB-----------Merts------------------Hummels------------new FB ------------------------------M'Villa ----------------------Goetze--------Wilshere ---Hazard----------------------------------------------Vargas -------------------------------RVP We would need to spend £200m, minus around £100m from shipping out 16 players- so about £100m net spend. We have nearly £200m in cash. Major overhaul - but the above team could win the CL and PL if we were bold enough to do it - and we could do it whilst only spending money we have earned
hill wood and his family have done more for arsenal then any other family over a longer period of time then the past 16 yrs ..... the biggest thing hill wood stands accused of is not addresing wengers failings .. for that he may have to go come the revolution ... as board member he is "equally" as culpable for the way things are, im assuming that hillwood gets no credit for the sucess at arsenal before and during wengers career?, that is all down to others ... how about that for blinkered blind faith view point . when we were winning ... its all down to wenger when we are losing .. blame the board, wenger carries the wieght of the club on his shoulders!!! is that black and white enough for some to show that the blind faith brigagde have no real point to add to this whole arsene / arsenal debate. we dont need to see a rejuvenated arsene wenger ... we need to see a rejunavted arsenal fc lost on some but thankfully not lost on the true arsenal fans here
In order to fund such a team: Trim the playing staff from 71 to 53. Set a wage structure something like:
It was about £100 million, and I'd say only half was dross . I think the laugh was at how you think the likes of Hazard and Goetze will want to join you on your sinking ship in the unlikely event your owners actually allow your manager to pay over 20 million for any of them.
£100m - are you sure? What about Saurez? I am talking about a net spend of £100m anyway. Its true that if we fail to get CL football, we will struggle to get these players, and may have to settle for the type of dross Liverpool signed. Thats the problem when you're not competing at the top level of the game.
Net spend of 100million? where did you get that from? Our net spend is 30m you plonker due to recouping money from Torres and the sale of about 6 other players. Even with CL you'd never fork out for Hazard, when was the last time you spend over 25 million for a player? A serious question
I was talking about our net spend requirement, you plonker (can you read?). Just to remind you we have nearly £200m cash in the bank. The point is we will have to fork out the money, or continue with a failed model. I am not saying we will do it - I am saying we need to do it. Comprehension is not a strong suit of scousers I know - but come on
Seems slightly ironic when you can't seem to comprehend that your owners will never invest 100 million in your squad, I will change my signature at how very wrong I am if they do but it's never going to happen. You'll be lucky if you even get to invest the money you get for RVP
Suker On the basis of what you have just written, the dust most certainly has not settled!!! We have so many problems and they have just kept on mounting through the years and this is the year they have all come to roost. I don't think you can tackle the matter of Arsene without addressing the issue of our board and owner. At least not long term anyway. If Arsene were to change, that would be one thing and give cause for some hope but there is a lot to change and long term solutions still lie with changes to this board. Can you see all that happening within a short space of time?
Sadly, I can comprehend what our owners will or will not do. That is why I have been discussing it for so long. My views are what will bring us back into top flight contention - not what I think will actually happen.
I can't really answer that question. My hope is that the board will change their policies, along with Wenger. I think that if Wenger approached the board with a list of players that he wants rid of and a list of players that he wants to buy, i think with the long history of steadfast support for him from the board, along with the achievements on and off the pitch that Wenger has given to the club they may just say 'OK Arsene' let's do it'. I don't think the supporters will tolerate another Summer like the last one and the board must know it.
Trouble is Suker, if reports can be believed, he did ask for certain players but our board was unwilling to sanction the purchase or the negotiating team unable to seal the deal. This summer should we not improve, I hope it is the end of this board and owner. Arsene will have to change failing which, he can join them too. The club is bigger than any of them. Be seein' ya
I can understand the end of the board. But what do you mean by the end of the owner??? The guy OWNS AFC, not the other way round. And btw Kroenke owns other mid table clubs and seems to be quit happy with it. So what we can REALLY do is just lower our expectations. Arsenal is a Top 8 club in EPL. Live with it. I can not see any other option for the next few years to be honest. A sad as it is. As for the summer the priority will be to keep the players, not spend on new ones. The board will abandon its pay structure and consider it a big enough investment in the team.
